Fire Safety Management

  • Evacuation routes are prominently displayed?

Storage

  • Flammable material is stored in a safe manner.

  • Electronic equipment and learning resources are stored safely.

  • Free standing shelves/cupboards are secured to a wall to ensure stability.

  • Storage methods are used that will eliminate or minimise accidents (heavy objects stored between mid-thigh and shoulder height).

  • Industrial (non-Domestic) Ladders and/or Step Ladders are available that have a max weight load of 120 kg (or more)

Hazardous Materials

  • Current (within 5 years) material safety data sheets are readily available for hazardous substances.

  • Hazardous substances are stored and labelled appropriately.

  • There are NO unmarked spray bottles?

  • Hazardous Materials are stored in a locked cupboard/storage area that is not accessible by Students/Visitors/

  • Science Department staff have been adequately trained in the safe handling of hazardous materials/chemicals.

  • Procedures and/or SAFE WORK METHOD STATEMENTS (Risk Assessments) have been created for the safe handling of hazardous materials/chemicals.

Electrical

  • Light fittings and ceiling fans are in good working order.

  • Electrical equipment has been tested and tagged within past 12 months.

  • Power boards are not overloaded and no use of double adaptors.

  • All areas have Residual Current Device protection.

General

  • Hanging displays are not hazardous.

  • All furniture is safe and in good condition.

  • Safe operating procedures are displayed with all potentially high risk equipment.

  • No signs of vermin have been identified.

  • No noise hazards evident.

  • Animal Cages or Fish Tanks are clean and in good condition.

  • Sink areas are clean and in good working order (I.e. No leaks) where required.

  • Required personal protective equipment is available and in good condition.

  • List any other safety issues or concerns
