Emergency Preparedness

  • Defibrillators, easily identifiable, working?

  • Alarm Panels, Call points, smoke and heat sensors working properly (note last service date) (Any Fault Codes)

  • Fire doors in good condition, Intumescent strips in place

  • QQQ are clear, marked and ISO containers in good condition? Last Inspection.

Traffic, pedestrian routes and Parking

  • Do you wish to examine traffic routes and parking?

  • Walkways, vehicle routes and work areas appropriately marked (As per risk assessment)

  • Parking bays marked appropriately, Visitors parking identified, reverse parking in forces (Concessions for some EV charging)

  • Carpark well lit with appropriate communications and signage min 5 lux

  • Rear yard well lit min 20 lux

Working at height equipment

  • Do you wish to examine ladders / podium steps on this safety walk?

  • Ladders are well maintained and in satisfactory condition, set up correctly, user trained and correct BS - EN 131 professional, ladder tag completed?

  • Do you wish to examine Safe Working Platforms (MEWPS) on this safety walk?

  • Well maintained, thorough examination in date, operator trained, in good condition and platform clear of debris etc?

  • Do you wish to examine scaffolds and or mobile scaffolds?

  • Correctly constructed, erectors appropriately trained, handover certs and scaff tags in place and completed appropriately?

Tools and Equipment

  • Do you wish to examine tools and equipment on this safety walk?

  • Powered hand tools PA Tested and inspected prior to use, any visible damage, stored correctly chargers in good conditions no trailing cables, Recorded on asset list?

  • Hand tools correct for the work being performed in good condition, electrical hand tools appropriately insulated?

  • Multi meters, scales, scanners and measures appropriately calibrated?

  • Bench and floor mounted machinery and welders PUWER Assessment Completed?

  • Appropriate guarding in place?

  • Pre use inspection completed, E-stops working, interlocks working can the equipment be isolated ?

Lifting Equipment

  • Do you wish to examine lifting equipment on this safety walk?

  • Correct equipment for the work being performed, personnel appropriately trained, method statement (Lift Plan) and risk assessment in place?

  • Appropriately maintained, thoroughly examined and inspected pre use?

  • Marked with unique ID, SWL, or relevant duty's

Basic Electrical Safety

  • Do you wish to examine electrical safety on this safety walk?

  • Installation Certificate on display and in date. (Cabin Test or 5 yearly fixed wire test).

  • Equipment identified on asset register?

  • Portable Appliance Test sticker visible and in date.

  • Trailing cables appropriately protected?

COSHH

  • Do you wish to check COSHH requirements ?

  • Yellow lockable COSHH cupboards in place, appropriately marked?

  • COSHH Assessments and Data Sheets Available for each item (sample check), Check review date?

  • Are items stored correctly, isolated segregated kept apart etc. as per HSG71

Environmental

  • Do you wish to examine environmental safety on this safety walk?

  • Noise levels acceptable (Measure areas with Dba meter)

  • Lighting at suitable levels office 100 - 200 Lux Production 200 - 500 Lux, Yard and outside areas 20 -50 Lux

  • Waste Management suitable. Waste streams identified and segregation

  • Waste Transfer Notes & Season Ticket (environmental file)

  • Spill kits on site appropriate for level of risk (i.e. fuel bowsers, plant failures, washout management, local to foul or water courses)

  • Bunds drip trays and plant nappies available?

  • Surface and foul water drainage correct.

Personnel

  • Do you wish to check personnel and this safety walk?

  • Behaviour is orderly and professional (Social Distancing compliance)

  • Clear communication is possible without needing to shout

  • Proper lifting technique demonstrated

  • Have any issues been identified ?

People Safety

  • Do you wish to check operative safety knowledge at this inspection?

  • Approach at least one team member and record their responses to the following. Make clear this is not an assessment of the team member themselves, but rather the safety procedures on site.

  • HSE Noticeboards in place and properly populated?

  • Appropriate signage in place Advisory, Mandatory, Warning and Prohibition?

  • Fire Exit signs visible from all aspects of the area being inspected?
