Pre-Operational Safety Check/Start-up

  • Visually inspect stairs to ensure they are clean and undamaged

  • Check stabilisers are working

  • Stairs are behind equipment staging lines

Move stairs to aircraft

  • Waits for thumbs up before moving towards aircraft

  • Is it a 2 man operation for FWD/AFT doors

  • Stairs are not moved at an angle to the aircraft

  • Staff at the front of the stairs guides the stairs into A/C - 25mm gap

  • Staff check doors for damage before positioning stairs

  • Physically checks all stabilisers are engaged and stairs stable (shakes stairs using hand rails)

Open Aircraft Doors (FWD/AFT)

  • Checks that the side rails are in position and firm

  • Knocks twice-waits for thumbs up from crew-checks strap or light inside view window-open door

  • Checks the PNK or GIRT bar is engaged on the door and not the aircraft

  • For A321 Rear stairs-Is it a two man operation?

Removing stairs from aircraft (FWD/AFT)

  • Visually seeks clearance from cabin crew if ok to close door

  • Closed door and physically checks if door is flush to the fuselage

  • Checks to see if the A/C door is closed and the stairs are clear before disengaging the stabilisers and removing stairs

  • For A321 Rear stairs-Is it a 2 man operation?

Return stairs to the GSE storage area

  • FWD stairs-Is it a 2 man operation?

  • AFT Stairs-is PMK under wing tip and spotter on hand when stairs are towed or pushed to the GSE storage area

  • All stabilisers engaged in the storage area

  • Safe Behaviours observed/actions taken to encourage safe behaviour

  • Unsafe Behaviours observed/action taken to correct and prevent re-occurence
