Notification of forecast of High Winds / Storm

  • Once notification of imminent severe winds/storm is received the site manager MUST monitor state specific weather websites and commence using Severe wind/storms checklist form.

Preparation for Severe Winds / Storm

  • Site Manager to check and ensure all containers isolated at high points and single stacks are to be repositioned to a block format.

  • Site Manager to ensure any new stacks are satisfactory in preparation of severe winds/storm.

  • Site manager to ensure all employees/contractors/visitors are aware of the possible emergency evacuation procedures.<br>Site manager to ensure all loose items, tools, machinery are secured.<br>

  • Once wind speed reaches 35 km/h the site manager must notify all relevant personnel of preparation for high winds procedure and possible container park shutdown.

  • Once wind speed reaches 45 km/h the site manager shall ensure there are NO pedestrians in the yard and advise all office/admin staff and contractors to remain indoors. <br>Site Manager to advise any alternate traffic plan in place.

During Severe Winds / Storm

  • Site manager must continuously monitor the wind speed.

  • Site manager to instruct all workers of the current wind speed and possible emergency evacuation.

  • When wind speed reaches 60 kph the site MUST commence shutdown of all operations.<br>Once the severe winds / storm have commenced and areas deemed unsafe, site manager will ensure no person or equipment enter this area.<br>

  • Site manager to instruct gatehouses to close access to the yard via boom-gates, gates or barriers and ensure NO Vehicles enter the site.<br>Site entry gate must be closed.

  • Site manager to instruct forklift drivers to park up their forklifts in the allocated parking area and report to supervisor once completed.

  • Site managers to ensure any incidents that may occur shall be communicated to state General Manager/s and SHE Department.

  • Wind speed to be monitored by site manage, if the speed is consistently below 60 kph discussions shall be had with all relevant personnel prior to the decision being made to re-open the site.
