Housekeeping

  • Are all delivery containers (pallets, crates, plastic wrapping, card board boxes) removed from the floor area?

  • Are all materials stored in a neat fashion when not in use?

  • Are there any unnecessary trailing cables?

  • Is the work area being inspected free from waste generated from activities?

  • Are there any materials, tools, equipment or plant obstructing or blocking the walkways?

Bin Condition

  • Are waste bins being used correctly (ie is the waste being segregated properly)?

  • Are the bins without damage and working as intended?

  • Are there any items sticking out of the bins, preventing the lid from fully closing?

Waste Movement

  • Is there sufficient means to transport waste out of the building (Hoist/Goods lift?)

  • When transporting waste in bins, pallet trucks and other manual handling aids fitted with wheels, is the route taken to remove the waste without hazards (Suitable floor surface, ramps that are not too steep, steps etc)?

Waste Management

  • Is waste dampened down via hose before bins are emptied into the compactor?

  • Is the waste compound set up to allow skips/compactor vehicles suitable segregation from people & plant?

  • When a compactor operator is loading the compactor with waste, are all operatives passing the bins without putting themselves in the compactor lifting arm radius?

  • Are skip lorries & compactor lorries safely manoeuvred to their destination by a traffic marshal?
