Documentation & Procedure

  • Is the vehicle that is being loaded/unloaded booked in via delivery management system (DMS)

  • Is there an approved lift plan in place with material being loaded/unloaded included?

  • Has the driver been issued drivers rules?

The Environment:

  • Are there controls in place to marshal and manage pedestrians (members of the public, site staff etc)

  • Is there a suitable exclusion zone in place?

  • Is there sufficient exclusion zone signage in place?

  • Is there safe access and egress to the vehicle?

  • Where undertaken on a live carriageway, is suitable signing, lighting and guarding employed?

  • Are there trip hazards in the loading/unloading area?

  • Is there sufficient lighting?

The Delivery Vehicle

  • Has the vehicle undergone a compliance check? (CLOCS/FORS)

  • Is the vehicle fitted with a suitable fall prevention system (if accessed by personnel)?

  • Is the vehicle parked correctly within the loading bay as instructed?

The Unloading Plant (FLT/Telehandler)

  • Does the driver have proof of competence?

  • Is lifting undertaken in accordance with the lift plan?

  • Are lifting methods and behaviours safe?

  • Is the machine working within its SWL?

  • Can the driver effectively communicate with the banksperson?

The Banksperson/Marshals

  • Is there a dedicated vehicle banksman?

  • Are other marshals involved in the operation?

  • Are staff working from a position of safety?

  • Do they hold a proof of competence?

  • Have they been briefed on and signed the lift plan?

  • Do the unloading personnel communicate effectively?

  • Have they been briefed on and signed RAMS?

  • Can they effectively communicate with the driver?

  • Are staff wearing correct PPE as per their SSOW?
