Shop Safety Audit

Electrical

  • Are all electrical doors closed?

  • Electrical panels have 3' clearance

  • Panels free of missing breakers

  • Extension cords free of damage and not used as fixed wiring

  • No extension cords running through walls, ceilings, or windows

Emergency Protection/Planning

  • Are fire extinguishers easily accessible (free of obstruction)?

  • Are monthly inspections documented on the tag?

  • Are all fire extinguishers conspicuously marked?

  • Are all exit routes marked, not obstructed and doors locked?

  • Are all emergency lights operational?

Welding and Cutting

  • Are oxygen and acetylene cylinders stored at least 20’ apart?

  • Are all cylinders (full & empty) secured in the upright position?

  • Hot work area is clear of flammable material and debris?

Chemical Safety

  • All chemicals have SDS readily available

  • All secondary containers are labeled with a GHS label

  • Spill containment kit is fully stocked

  • All soiled rags are in self closing containers that are in good condition

  • Eye wash station has been tested and flushed

  • All flammable chemicals are stored in proper flammable storage cabinets

Rigging

  • Any rigging devices that are in poor condition are removed from the shop floor

  • All rigging devices have been inspected annually, monthly and prior to every use

Forklift

  • All operators have been certified to operate forklift

  • All forklifts have been inspected prior to use every shift

  • All forklifts have working seatbelts and alert systems (horn, lights etc.)

  • all employees involved in a forklift crash or observed operating unsafely have certification revoked

Machinery and Guarding

  • Bench grinder tongue guard is adjusted to with in 1/4" and tool rest 1/8"

  • Angle grinders are properly guarded

  • Tire cage is present and used 100% of the time

  • All keys are out of the ignition of tractor trailers that are being serviced

  • All vehicles under service wheels' are chocked and blocked

  • Jackstands are used 100%

General Safety

  • Work areas are clean and dry

  • Trash is disposed of properly before overflowing

  • Walk ways are clear of cords and other debris

  • Yard lot is free of pot holes, trip hazards, and all lighting works

  • First aid kits are stocked appropriately

Posters

  • OSHA 300a is posted from Feb-April

  • DOL posters are posted

  • Emergency contact numbers are posted

  • Nearest hospital address and number are posted

  • Tire changing posters are posted

Training

  • All employees have completed safety orientation and read receipt is on file

  • All employees have been trained in blood borne pathogens

  • All employees have been trained in lockout tagout

  • All employees have been trained in chemical safety

  • All employees have been trained in emergency action planning

  • All employees have been trained in ladder usage

  • All employees have been trained in tire mounting safety
