Daily pre-start briefing

Emergency arrangements (including arrangements for dealing with bites, stings etc. Check if any persons in team are at risk of anaphylaxis)

Welfare facilities

Adequate measures for working in all weathers (warm clothing, waterproofs, sun cream etc.)

Hand-held powered machines, e.g. strimmers, chain-saws, hedge trimmers, mowers and water pressure cleaners maintained and in good condition.

Drivable machines, e.g. sit-on mowing machines, tractors and dumper trucks maintained and in good condition.

Static machines, e.g. mulchers and shredders maintained and in good condition with adequate guarding in place and emergency stops etc. functional

Hand tools, e.g. spades, forks, picks, shovels, rakes, shears, loppers, secateurs, screwdrivers, knives and hand saws in good condition.

Lifting equipment, e.g. lift trucks and lifting slings LOLER certified.

Other equipment, e.g. ladders in good condition.

Safe use, handling, storage and transport of substances that may be hazardous to health, eg pesticides, weed killers and fertilisers

Training e.g. LANTRA, BALI, BPCA, chainsaw, rope access, plant use, application of pesticides and herbicides, water safety

Safe access and egress

All persons working within 3m of unguarded water wearing self-inflating lifejackets

All persons working in water wearing water-safe PPE

Water rescue arrangements adequate

Waste handling and disposal

Work at height, e.g. cutting hedges

Specialist tree work at height (rope work)
