Engineering Control Systems

  • Are the mechanical ventilation or extraction systems in your work area turned on and operating?<br>

  • Are the dust suppression water spray systems in your work area turned on and operating?<br>

  • Are the controls in your work area protecting you and those around you (e.g. pot / cell hoods, seals, skirts, ducting, enclosures, boilermaker bay)?

  • If there is a positive pressure system (e.g. in-cab or control room), is it turned on and operating?<br>

Administration Controls

  • Do you know the areas and tasks where mandatory respiratory protection is required in your work area?

  • Are you washing your hands before eating, drinking and smoking?<br>

  • Have you cleaned, maintained and stored your respirator correctly?

  • If required, are you showering and changing at the end of the shift?

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Are you wearing your respirator at all times in mandatory respiratory protection device (RPD) areas or when completing mandatory RPD tasks?<br>

  • Are you communicating without removing your respirator in mandatory RPD areas / tasks?<br>

  • If required, are you using the right respirator filter cartridge for the job?

Face Fitting Respirator

  • Have you been fit tested for the face fitting respirator you will wear?

  • Have you completed a fit check (positive and negative pressure seal checks)?<br>

  • Have you shaved to meet the site facial hair policy?

  • Have you made sure nothing is between the seal of the respirator and your skin (e.g. balaclavas, headscarves, jewellery, glasses, hair and other PPE)?

Positive Pressure Respirator

  • Have you done your air flow check before wearing your respirator?

  • Is the respirator and it components free of damage or leaks (e.g. seals, hose)?
