PROCEDURE: Cold Method
Fill the container with 60% cubed ice and 40% water. (For crushed use a 50:50 ratio)
Place thermometer stem into ice water solution (sensor must be completely submerged)
Read the thermometer after 2 minutes.
If the thermometer does not read 5° C (+/- 2° C), adjust accordingly.
Hot Method
Fill the container with hot water (> 66°C).
Place the Reference Thermometer into the hot water, ensuring the tip is submerged at the most minuscule 2 ½ inches. Assure the reference thermometer reads at least 66°C.
Place the handheld thermometer into the hot water for at least one minute by immersing the tip to a minimum depth of 2 ½ inches, ensuring the tip does not touch the bottom. Mixing the water is suggested.
*Calibration Frequency: Check the Calibration of thermometers daily and when accidentally dropped.
**Observation Parameters: Thermometers must be accurate to at least +/- 2°C from 5°C or Minimum 66°C for Hot.
