Certification:

  • Is the door certified for fire resistance? (eg, FD30,FD60)

  • Does the door display a certification label or mark (often found on the top or side of the door)

Door Condition

  • Is the door free from damage? (no holes, splits, or warping)

  • Are the door edges intact and undamaged?

Frame Condition

  • Is the door frame in good condition, securely fixed and undamaged?

  • Are the door gaps between the door and the frame consistent and within acceptable limits (typically 3-4mm)

Seals and Intumescent Strips

  • Are the intumescent strips in place and undamaged

  • Do the seals or strips run continuously around the door or frame?

  • Are the seals free from paint, damage, or obstructions?

Hinges

  • Are there at least THREE hinges properly fitted to the door?

  • Are the hinges firmly secured with the correct number of screws (usually FOUR screws pair hinge)

  • Are the hinges free from rust, damage, or missing parts?

Door Closers

  • Is an automatic door closer installed and functional?

  • Does the door close fully and securely from any position without assistance? (test full, half, quarter open)

  • Does the door close without excessive force - slamming?

Door Gaps

  • Are the gaps between the door and frame within 3-4mm along the top AND sides?

  • Is the gap at the bottom of the door less than 10mm for smoke control doors (or as specified for the door type)?

Glazed Panels

  • Are any vision panels or glazing clear and free from cracks or damage?

  • Is the glazing fire-rated AND marked with appropriate certification?

Locks and Latches

  • Are locks and latches fitted in a way that doesn't compromise the fire resistance of the door

  • Can the door be opened easily without the use of excessive force?

Additional Hardware

  • Is any additional hardware (handles, letterboxes, air transfer grilles) fire -rated and installed correctly?

  • Are air transfer grilles fitted with automatic fire shutters where necessary?

Self Closing Mechanism

  • Does the self-closing mechanism close the door fully without sticking?

  • Is the mechanism free from damage, wear, or tampering?

Smoke Seals

  • If the door is required to be smoke-sealed, are smoke seals in place and undamaged?

  • Do the seals compress properly when the door is closed?

Hold-Open Devices (if applicable)

  • If fitted with a hold-open device, does it release the door automatically when the fire alarm is triggered?

Fire Door Use

  • Is the door being used for its intended purpose (not wedged open, blocked, or obstructed)?

  • Are regular checks being recorded in a maintenance or building compliance log?
