Part 1 - Induction

  • A TKL site induction must be given to all TKL personnel and contractors on site or any persons who will require unaccompanied access to any areas under the control of The TKL Group.

  • The induction will cover but not be limited to the following areas;

  • Identify the key personnel on the site

  • All Workmen, Visitors, Sub-Contractors, and Delivery Drivers must register their presence on site by signing in and out, NO persons under the age of 18 years of age will be allowed on site

  • Whilst on site the following personal protective equipment is mandatory and shall be worn at all times; - Safety Helmets, Safety Footwear (with ankle support),and High Visibility Vests/Coats

  • Gloves shall be worn at all times when handling materials or substances. Ear Protection shall be worn when indicated by the blue and white sign or when noise levels are in excess of 85 dB (A), i.e. when operating a jackhammer or disc cutter. Eye protection shall be worn when indicated by the blue and white sign i.e. when operating disc cutters or air operated plant

  • Identify location of welfare provision for the site – Toilets, Canteen, Smoking Areas etc – to be kept clean and tidy at all times

  • First Aid – Nominated First Aider for the site (Site Manager) and location of facilities – (Identify Hospital route planner)

  • You must report all Accidents, Incidents, Near Misses, Injury Illnesses and Dangerous Occurrences to the Site Supervisor, who will give further advice and implement remedial action

  • Fire Plan – Identify Assembly Points, Alarm Procedure and Fire Points – Hot Works Permits for all Hot Works to be issued by Site Supervisor or Client’s Representative

  • Alcohol/Drugs are not permitted on site or to be consumed during work hours. No persons are to arrive at work under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Employees taking prescribed drugs are to inform the site supervisor if they may have an effect on their working ability. Anyone suspected of being under the influence of illegal substances or alcohol will be removed from site immediately

  • No unauthorised use of plant, If you are not trained to use specific equipment, then do not use under any circumstances. Copies of all training certificates to be present to site supervisor to ensure competency has been authenticated. Disciplinary procedures will be raised against any employee disregarding this statement

  • Do not approach any operating machines without first making eye contact with the machine operator and confirming the route to be taken

  • Complaints from the public shall be dealt with in a courteous manner

  • Do not attempt to perform any duties for which you have not been Trained / Authorised to do

  • Do not start any work until you have a Risk Assessment / Method Statement in place and you have read and understand the methodology and control measures to be undertaken. If you are unsure of any aspect then clarify it with your supervisor prior to starting work

  • Should any aspect of the works require a minor deviation from the designated methodology, the works "may" be conducted under the remit of POW (point of work risk assessment) which is to be authorised by your supervisor prior to operations

  • Do not attempt to approach any operating machines/lorries until the operator has seen you and you have had permission from the operator/driver

  • Sub-floor Excavation, entry into Confined Spaces, Hot Work and the work on Electrical Equipment/Cables must not be undertaken without consent from the Site Supervisor or being under the strict control of a specific permit which will be issued ensuring adequate safety control measures have been implemented

  • No Access into the Tunnels within the building without appropriate risk assessments being undertaken and approved by the TKL safety officer

  • Before starting work, familiarise yourself with your surroundings and other activities which may be taking place

  • The HASAWA (1974) requires employers to provide for consultation with employees in relation to Health, Safety and Welfare issues. If you have any concerns relating to H & S issues, contact your Supervisor, details of your consultation will be recorded on the form provided

  • YOU MUST COMPLY AND WORK WITHIN THE METHOD STATEMENT.

  • CONSIDER: -

  • Are you authorised and competent to undertake the task?

  • Do you have the right equipment and PPE/RPE?

  • What effects could your task have on others?

  • What effects could other activities have on you?

  • Can work be completed in compliance with the Method Statement?

  • Are you fully aware of the risk associated with your task?

  • Do you know what to do in case of an emergency?

  • ENVIRONMENTAL: Consider the impact of your work activities on the environment, including Land, Water Contamination – Airborne Dust particles transiting beyond the site boundaries, Disturbance, Noise, and Lighting Nuisance to local residents and neighbours. Follow the control measure included within the Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) and any environmental risk assessments appertaining to your work activities

  • WASTE MANAGEMENT

  • Do not burn waste on-site

  • Do not bury waste on-site

  • Do not overfill Skips including compactor units. all lids should fit

  • Do not mix different types of waste

  • Put hazardous, liquid or flammable wastes into mixed waste skips

  • Use skips for waste taken from home

  • Whenever possible segregate waste into the different types

  • Use enclosed or covered skips

  • Ask your Site manager or Environmental Manager for advice if you are unsure about the correct waste segregation on-site

  • Spend a portion of the working day clearing up waste

  • All waste leaving site must be recorded on a waste transfer note either from the carrier or RHDL site transfer note

  • STOP! THINK! CONSIDER! IF IN DOUBT, ASK!!!!
