Safety points of Climbing up and down ladders

  • 1. Three-point contact helps prevent injuries from slips and falls.

  • 2. • Put both hands firmly on the rungs before stepping onto a ladder.

  • 3. • Use 3-point contact climbing a ladder one hand and two feet or two hands and one foot one the ladder at all times.

  • 4. • Break 3-point contact only when you reach ground or a stable platform.

  • 5. • Always climb up and down facing the ladder, ensure the rungs are free from debris and contaminants.

  • 6. • Keep your body between the side rails. Don't lean out on either side.

  • 7. • Make sure that ladders extend at least 900mm (3 feet) above the bearing point at floor or landing.

  • 8. Don't carry tools, equipment, or material in your hands while climbing. Use a hoist or line for lifting and lowering.
