TAI Safety Policies / Working Conditions

  • Are all TM's wearing the required PPE for the given task?

  • Are 5S standards being followed? (Especially the proper placement of all items, proper trash/waste handling/storage, etc...)

  • Were all equipment / tools (cranes, wire ropes/nylon slings, forklifts, etc...) inspected and a check sheet completed prior to use?

  • Is the "3 meter" forklift standard being followed?

  • Are TM's following the 45 degree angle (Safe Zone) standard and "side shifting" the grabs before lifting to ensure the grabs are clear of the coil I.D.?

  • Was anyone standing in an unsafe or pinch point area?

  • Are there Work Instructions / Standards for the task being performed?

  • Is Lock-out / Tag-out being followed in ALL areas of the plant?

  • Coil Storage: Are coils stored properly? (No suspended coils, heavy coil stacked on a smaller coil, too wide for the row, etc...)

Behavior Based Risk Safety

  • Are ALL employee's stopping at driveways & intersections prior to crossing?

  • Are ALL employee's walking in a designated walking path? (Except when working on processing lines or WH)

  • Are ALL employee's observing to not walk between coils?

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Did you observe anyone using their PPE as a Primary protection instead of the intended Secondary protection device?

Body Positioning

  • Slitter(s): Are T/M's pushing SL tooling with their fingers out using their palms?

  • Are SL T/M's following the "breaker bar" standard?

  • Are truck driver's in a safe position while the truck is being unloaded / loaded?

  • Are Team Member's wearing chin straps and truck / trailer wheels are chocked while they are on the trailer?

  • Are Team Members handling scrap pieces in a safe manner or using a tool?

  • Are scrap boxes not overfilled and are being handled properly during the dumping process?

Tool Handling

  • Did you observe unnecessary tools in any work areas?

  • Were any tools observed being used for any reason other than intended?

  • Are damaged tools being used by TM's or Maintenance?
