  • Check stairwells that open to your area to assure no equipment is stored there

Medical Equipment

  • ★ Oxygen tanks secured & stored in proper bin with no more than 12 per smoke compartment

  • In rooms where oxygen is stored, is there an appropriate sign denoting "Medical Gases: No smoking or open flame"

Infection Control

  • ★ Used reusable surgical/procedural instruments removed from soiled utility rooms in departments performing bedside procedures (i.e. ED, ICU, etc.)

  • ★ Check soiled utility room for red biohazard bins containing soiled reusable surgical instruments, ensure they are doused in Preklenz. Remove bin from area.

  • Sharps containers less than ¾ full and located neat point of use

Pharmacy Practices

  • Open vials of medications / sterile solutions are dated & stored properly

  • ★ Medications secured, no unsecured sharps, or syringes

  • There are no expired medications/items/supplies

Staff Responses

  • ★ Staff know how to locate & identify who is authorized to turn off medical gas valves in an emergency.
