General

  • What works is currently being performed in area?

  • Are RAMS available for all works being performed in area?

Housekeeping

  • Are walkways defined and clear and free from obstruction?

  • Is work area clean, tidy and hazard free with all items stored in correct area

  • Is access / egress into area hazard free?

  • Are floors dry and free from slip & trip hazards?

  • Are all storage area clean and well organised ?

  • Is lighting adequate for the work being carried out?

  • Are the weather conditions suitable for the work being carried out?

  • Is area clean, tidy and hazard free with all items stored in correct area

  • All gas bottles stored in cage correctly and identified as Full or MT

  • All smoking being carried out in designated area away from gas bottles

Plant & Equipment

  • What plant & equipment is being used to undertake tasks being performed?

  • Have all pre-use inspections been carried out and documentation completed?

  • Are emergency stop buttons working? (Random check)

  • Are stepladders / WAH equipment in use in area been pre use checked including statutory inspections complete.

  • Are all machine guards in place and fit for purpose?

  • Are statutory inspection records available for equipment where required LOLER / Compressed Air

  • Are there any outstanding maintainance requests

Inspection Lifting Equipment

  • Has all lifting equipment available in area been inspected at the appropriate intervals by a competent person? (Random checks)

  • Is lifting equipment being stored correctly?

  • Are safe working loads clearly displayed on lifting equipment?

Electrical Plant & Equipment

  • Ensure portable electrical appliances have been inspected

  • Ensure plugs and cables are in good condition

  • Ensure circuits are not overloaded

Personal Protective Equipment

  • What PPE should be being worn for the tasks being performed?

  • What PPE is being worn for the tasks being performed and is this in line with requirements?

  • Are PPE issue records available for employees working in area

  • Any comments re PPE compliance?

Welfare Facilities

  • Are the toilets clean and sufficiently maintained?

  • Is the canteen clean and sufficiently maintained?

First Aid

  • Are there sufficient first aid requiements for people working in the area?

  • Is the first aid kit readily available and adequately stocked?

  • Is the first aid locations clearly signed, including names of current first aiders?

  • Is the first aid kit stocked sufficiently and has it been checked recently?

Wate Inc Hazardous Waste / Waste Areas (skips etc)

  • Check status of waste bins (full or empty) – Fire Hazard

  • Is all waste in correct bins

  • Check levels of skips are they overflowing ? – Fire Hazard

  • Is all fencing surrounding the skips in adequate condition and locked to prevent access ?

Racking & Storage Areas

  • Is there any racking in area being used for storage?

  • Is all racking inspected and tagged?

  • Are all racks in good condition is there any damage etc ?

Environmental Hazards

  • Any obvious environmental hazards - drain check

  • Are any chemicals in use stored on bunded pallets?

  • Are spill kits available for any drains?

Fire & Evacuation

  • Have all contractors working in area signed in and been inducted?

  • Is the area free of any fire hazards? (Generally excess waste)

  • Are fire exits clear, doors closed and free from obstruction?

  • Are fire extinguishers available, off the ground, free from damage and obstructions?

  • Is any hot works being performed in area?
