Water Impoundment/Access Road

  • Site ID Sign Permit?

  • Erosion & Sediment Control Plan present on site?

  • Is the access road in acceptable condition?

  • Is the location/road stable and free from accelerated erosion?

  • Are the culvert pipes/stream crossings open and functioning properly?

  • Is the location adequately vegetated (70% permanent ground cover)?

  • Is the location free of any fluid or gas leaks?

  • Is the location free of any fluid or gas contamination?

  • Is the location free of unused pipe, equipment, materials or debris?

  • Is the impoundment within 1,000 feet of an occupied structure?

  • Is the impoundment within city/town limits?

Erosion and Sediment Control

  • 1. Surface Water Protection

  • Clean storm water runoff has been diverted from areas to be disturbed.

  • Bodies of water located either on site or in the vicinity of the site have been identified and protected.

  • Appropriate practices to protect on site or downstream surface water are installed.

  • 2. Stabilized Construction Entrance

  • A temporary construction entrance to capture mud and debris from construction vehicles before they enter the public highway has been installed.

  • Other access areas (entrances, construction routes, equipment parking areas) are stabilized immediately with gravel or other cover as work takes place.

  • Sediment tracked onto public streets is removed or cleaned up on a regular basis.

  • 3. Perimeter Sediment Controls

  • Silt fences are installed at appropriate spacing intervals.

  • Sediment/detention basins are installed.

  • Sediment traps and barriers are installed.

  • Silt fence material and installation comply with specifications.

Maintaining Water Quality

  • Is there an increase in turbidity causing a substantial visible contrast to natural conditions?

  • Are there any residual oil and floating substances, visible oil film, or globules or grease?

  • All disturbances are within the limits of the approved plans.

  • Have receiving surface waters/or wetlands been impacted by silt from the project?

Housekeeping

  • Is construction site litter and debris appropriately managed?

  • Are facilities and equipment necessary for implementation of erosion and sediment control in working order and/or properly maintained?

  • Is construction impacting the adjacent property?

  • Is dust adequately controlled?

Runoff Control Practices

  • 1. Interceptor Dikes and Swales

  • Installed per plan with minimum side slopes 2H:1V or flatter?

  • Stabilized by geotextile fabric, seed or mulch with no erosion occurring?

  • Sediment laden runoff directed to sediment trapping structure?

  • 2. Rock Outlet Protection

  • Installed per plan?

  • Installed concurrently with pipe installation?

  • Checked for sediment accumulation?

Soil Stabilization

  • 1. Topsoil and Spoil Stockpiles

  • Stockpiles are stabilized with vegetation and or mulch?

  • Sediment control is installed at the toe of the slope?

  • Clean storm water runoff diverted from stockpile?

  • 2. Re-vegetation

  • Minimum of topsoil has been applied under permanent seeding?

  • Temporary seeding and mulch have been applied to idle areas?

  • Estimated % of vegetation cover present.

Sediment Control Practices

  • 1. Stabilized Construction Entrance

  • Stone is clean enough to effectively remove mud from vehicles?

  • Installed per standards and specifications?

  • Does all traffic use the stabilized entrance to enter and leave the site?

  • Is adequate drainage provided to prevent ponding at entrance?

  • 2. Culverts

  • Installed at locations according to E&S Plan?

  • Outlet protection installed according to E&S Plan?

  • Checked for sediment accumulation?

  • 3. Silt Fence

  • Installed on contour, 10' from toe of the slope (not across conveyance channels)?

  • Joints constructed by wrapping two ends together for continuous support?

  • Fabric buried per specifications (6 inches minimum)?

  • Posts are stable, fabric is tight, upright and without rips or frayed areas?

  • Estimated % of sediment accumulation per the design capacity.

  • 4. Temporary Sediment Trap

  • Outlet structure is constructed per the approved plan or drawing?

  • Geotextile fabric has been placed beneath rock fill?

  • Sediment accumulation does not exceed designed accumulation elevation?

  • Estimated % of sediment accumulation pr the design capacity.
