Ground Cover

  • Is mulch or other surface area free of debris, glass, animal feces, weeds, and any protruding objects?

  • Is area free of tripping hazards, such as exposed footings, rocks, and roots?

  • Does there appear to be poor drainage in any area of the playground?

  • Does loose fill material appear to be at least 12" in depth?

  • Does there seem to be any displacement in high traffic areas such as under swings and slide exits?

Equipment

  • Does there appear to be any loose bolts, missing caps, or missing protective plugs

  • Are there any sharp points, corners, or edges on the equipment?

  • Are there any potential clothing entanglement hazards, such as open S-hooks or protruding bolts?

  • Are there any moving parts, such as swing hangers that are worn?

  • Is there any visible rust, rot, cracks or splinters on any of the equipment pieces (check carefully where it comes in contact with the ground)?

  • Is protective paint or coating in good condition?

  • Are there any broken or missing components on the equipment (e.g., handrails, guard rails, protective barriers, steps, or rungs)?

  • Is all equipment securely anchored?
