Open Zoo

Donkeys

  • Alternate feed every other day between hay or a bucket each of chaff

  • For hay give one biscuit per donkey

  • For chaff mixture scoop 3 heaps of oaten chaff into Shrimp's bucket and two scoops for Marquis. Add in zero pellets (one tin can full) and 20ml each of donkey supreme.

Ducks and Guinea Fowls

  • Take half a bucket of grain mix and tip into two trays that are on the ground in the staff entry to FFA

Free Flight Aviary (FFA)

  • All remaining waste from previous day is to be removed and the surfaces of the trays wiped down. Place one bucket full of MIXED fruit and veg (apples, oranges, pear, zucchini, kale) evenly into allocated fruit trays.

  • Add one cup of Lorikeet Mix (if needed). If it is raining DO NOT add the Lori mix.

  • Was it raining?

  • Remove old husks collected in the bottom of seed hoppers and add 1/3 bucket full of parrot mix to refill seed.

  • In summer, spray the trays and discs with oil in bottles left on stands, so fruit and manure does not stick to trays.

Guinea Pigs

  • Clean enclosure completely before placing any food. Remove old bedding from nesting boxes and replace. Sweep out any faecal matter and spray, disinfect and rinse off any urine from inside the castle floor.

  • Scrub and hose out moat

  • Tip out guinea pig pellets from the two hoppers and refill. Fill top of hoppers with fine hay mixture. Give fresh vegetables in allocated trays.

  • Refill water dispensers

Goats

  • Rake up any leftover lucerne hay and manure and dispose of.

  • Give 5 x biscuits Lucerne hay in green trough.

Red Kangaroos

  • Rake up any leftover hay and manure and dispose of.

  • Feed two biscuits rye hay, one bucket of hand picked grass and top up pellets (pellets should be readily available at all times). If pellets are wet from rain or ducks clean out and replace with fresh pellets.

Peafowl

  • Tip out yesterday's mixture and replace with one full white bucket of 'red hen' mix

Grey Kangaroos

  • Rake up any leftover hay and manure and dispose of.

  • Feed one biscuits rye hay, one bucket of hand picked grass and top up pellets (pellets should be readily available at all times). If pellets are wet from rain or ducks clean out and replace with fresh pellets.

Wallabies

  • Rake up any leftover hay and manure and dispose of.

  • Give one biscuit of rye hay, half a bucket of freshly picked grass and top up pellets (pellets should be readily available at all times).

Emus

  • Fill half a bucket with grain mixture and top up with the rest of the bucket with chopped vegetables and fruit. Give half a biscuit of lucerne hay.

Deer

  • Rake up any leftover hay and manure and dispose of. Place 6-7 biscuits lucerne hay into green trough, wheaten chaff in trough if needed.

Alpaca

  • Rake up any leftover hay and manure and dispose of. Place three biscuits lucerne hay ??? where??

Rabbits

  • Rake up and clean grit area. Clean out litter tray and any soiling in nesting boxes and replace with fresh shavings.

  • Refill water dispensers

  • Refill three x hoppers with pellets and fine hay mixture. Place chopped vegetables on allocated tray.

Pigs

  • Rake enclosure collecting and removing any manure. Spread crusher grit where the manure occurred.

  • Scrub and clean the water trough and refill.

  • Feed one bucket of pig pellets in trough depending on size of the pigs along with mixed fruit and vegetables.

Chickens

  • Lightly rake the grit pathways collecting any food scraps and manure and dispose of in the bin. Replace any soiled shavings.

  • Check water and top up as necessary.

  • Place food in food hopper and open one side of grassed area.

Single Aviaries - this process is the same for all single pens

  • Lightly rake top layer of pens collecting feathers, leaves, food waste and manure and dispose of.

  • Scrub water troughs and refill.

  • Place fruit on skewers. Empty and refill seed hoppers with the appropriate mix (MD pellets).

Wombat

  • Rake enclosure removing any soiled bedding material and manure and dispose of. Replace bedding.

  • Scrub and clean water trough and refill.

  • Fill food hopper with ????????

Holding and Quarantine Cages/Pens

  • Animal in quarantine

  • Type of bird

  • Does the animal in quarantine require medication?

  • Name of medication and dosage rate/time

  • Clean water bowls, fill seed and food containers as needed with the appropriate food mix.

Water Troughs

  • Make sure all are clean and have fresh water daily.

Clean Cool Room and Feed Sheds

  • Any fruit or vegetables that are spoiling are to be thrown out. Sweep then mop the floor with disinfectant.

Animal Training

  • Work on handling, walking and public feeding with all the animals.

Lock Up - to be completed at ????? 3.45pm

  • Lock FFA and gates.

  • Lock animals off the grassed areas onto their corresponding paddock.

  • Walk around checking for any public still in the Zoo, check twice - call out

  • Lock Zoo entry and exit gates at ??? 4.15pm
