Set Up Check List

Site Safety

  • Vehicle wheel is chocked, and E-brake applied (if applicable).

  • Adequate signage put up at borehole site (Geophysical Survey in Progress).

  • Spill kit available.

  • Safety kit (fire extinguisher, emergency first aid kit) present on site, fire extinguisher has up-to-date inspection tag with employee initials beside hole punch. Site ERP plan is also present in first aid kit.

  • Generator and gas secured in separate spill trays.

  • Cut proof gloves present on site.

  • Safety glasses and high visibility PPE is being worn.

  • Propane has been checked for leaks (leak detector) *as needed*

Borehole

  • Has the hole been dummied before?

  • Borehole collar has been ensured to be screwed on tightly (pipe wrenches).

  • Borehole collar inspected for sharp edges, burs, or anything that could potentially cut the line.

  • Expected depth of hole (if known?)

  • Depth of dummy?

Depth Counter

  • Designated offset known/established ? (How far do you lower probe from tip of spearhead touching depth wheel to probe being zero'd at ground level?)

  • Depth counter is in-line with winch.

  • Depth counter zero'd at ground level.

Winch

  • Sprocket drive pin secure (IFG WINCH)

  • Winch controller has all settings switched to OFF prior to plugging anything into power (IFG WINCH)

  • Dog clutch,locking pin on winch are disengaged (AGO WINCH)

  • Winch is shielded from the elements (use of a tent)?

  • Winch is strapped down and secured.

  • Near surface marker on kevlar to indicate when probe is nearing the surface.

Probe, Phone & Stations

  • Probe phone station duration time set to 5 minutes.

  • Green light is ON prior to putting probe down borehole.

  • Stations (including overlap stations) are known/established.

  • Rings & thread inspected, cleaned with brush where needed.

  • Single knot 1-2 inches above the spearhead is present with secondary safety knot 6 feet above.

  • Relief cut has been made underneath knot above the spearhead of probe.

  • Connection points on probe taped over.

  • Probe coated in WD-40.

End of Day

  • What is the stretch of the kevlar?

  • Is the probe light on?

  • Has the probe had a clear view of the sky for 10 minutes before shutting off the probe?

  • Take picture of station values sheet

Dummy Probe

  • Single knot 1-2 inches above the dummy probe head is present with secondary safety knot 6 feet above.

  • Relief cut has been made underneath knot above the head of dummy probe.

  • Connection points on dummy probe taped over.

  • Dummy probe coated in WD-40.
