Trailer Safety Checklist

Hitch

  • Tug test performed.

  • Gross trailer weight at or lower than vehicle's tow rating.

  • Vehicle ball hitch clip secured and is correct size for trailer.

  • Trailer coupler locked/secured with coupler latch pin.

  • Trailer chains twisted (if needed) to correct length and crossed.

  • Trailer plug connected and working.

  • Jack in stored/secured position.

Lamps & Reflectors

  • All running, marker, brake, turn signal and hazard lamps are functioning. All reflectors are secure, not damaged.

Body & Frame

  • Cross members and main frame are not cracked, bent, or broken, license plate secure and visible and matches registration which is present.

  • Leaf springs & U-bolts are secure, not damaged. Axle(s) secure, not damaged.

Tires & Rims

  • Tires are full, not leaking. Side walls have no abrasions, bulges or cuts. Tread depth above 3mm with even wear.

  • Rims are not cracked, bent, or broken. Lug nuts tight & secure.

  • Spare tire available, not damaged.

Securement, Cargo, & Levelness

  • Cargo weight distributed properly over axles.

  • Cargo is properly secured and protected.

  • All doors are locked, secured, not damaged.

  • 2 wheel chocks available.

  • Employee Sign Off
