Domestic Hygiene, Pests and Refuse

  • Is there a clean, functioning waste bin in the area which is used for appropriate waste?

  • Is there a domestic waste bin available in the kitchen which is not overfilled and in good condition?

  • Is there any evidence of vermin/pests such as droppings, ammonia-like smell or gnaw marks?

  • Have any of the occupants raised concerns regarding vermin/pests?

Food Safety

  • Are there adequate and suitable food storage facilities including power socket outlets provided?

  • Are there adequate cooking facilities provided?

  • Are sinks, draining boards and work tops properly installed and fitted including being sealed to adjacent surfaces and provided with splash-backs?

Fire

  • Has a fire risk assessment been completed or reviewed in the last 12 months?

  • Is there any disrepair to the fabric of walls or ceilings?

  • Has the fire blanket in the kitchen been formally inspected in the last 12 months?

  • Is the fire blanket stored in its protective pouch and fixed to the wall in the kitchen?

  • Is the fire blanket protective pouch within 1-2 metres of the cooker and fixed between the cooker and the nearest exit?
