Floors and Walkways

  • Are aisles and passageways kept clear and marked appropriately?

  • If cords are crossing an aisle way are the covered with orange cord guards?

  • Are materials or equipment stored in such a that sharp projections will not interfere with the walkway? Any projections in to the aisle way must be necessary and marked with caution tape.

  • Are floor openings covered or otherwise guarded with a guardrail, or equivalent on all sides (except at stairways or ladder entrances)?

  • Are aisle ways permanently marked?

  • Are changes of direction or elevations readily identifiable?

  • Are aisles or walkways that pass near moving or operating machinery, welding operations, or similar operations arranged so employees will not be subjected to potential hazards?

  • In the work area, are high traffic areas free of trip hazards?

Exit Routes

  • Are all exits marked with an exit sign and illuminated by a reliable light source?

  • Are exits kept free from obstructions?

  • Are exit doors able to be opened from the direction of exit travel without the use of a key?

  • Are fluid containers emptied and cleaned if not in use?

  • Are flammable or toxic chemicals clearly marked as such?

  • Is spill response equipment available, easily accessible and adequately filled?

  • Is eye protection available near areas marked eye wear required?

  • Are protective goggles or face shields provided and worn where there is any danger of flying particles or corrosive materials?

Electrical

  • Do extension cords have a grounding conductor?

  • Are cords free from exposed or frayed wiring and splices or taps?

  • Are outlet boxes limited to only one plug per outlet?

Support Equipment

  • Are ladders in safe working condition? (labels, free of cracks, locking mechanism, traction feet, rungs, etc.)

  • Are jacks leak free and have all working parts?

  • If fall protection is installed, is it working properly?

  • Are cylinders kept away from sources of heat and elevators, stairs or gangways?

  • Are portable fans provided with full guards and screens having openings 1/2 inch or less?

  • Are cylinders secured from falling?

  • Are all cylinders clearly marked?

General

  • Is the area clean, organized and free of clutter?

  • Are work surfaces kept dry and slip resistant?

  • Are emergency telephone numbers posted where they can be found in case of emergency?

  • Are all work areas adequately illuminated?

  • Is all PPE maintained in a sanitary condition and ready for use?

  • Are shelving units/carts sturdy and contain appropriate amount of materials?

  • Has large hangar door been inspected for proper function within a month and found to be safe?
