Bricklayer Specification Sheet

1. Mortar - Must be mixed to comply with Aust Standard AS 3700. I part cement and 1 part lime and 6 parts sand.

2. Flashings - Provide a continuous flashings around house to be installed on top of coarse immediately below floor level. Weepholes to be provided max 1.200mm centres including under all full height windows. Flashings to be provided over all wall windows on top of first brick coarse above lintel. Weepholes to be a max 1.200mm centres. Flashings to be provided above garage and single storey section roof with weepholes at max 1.200 centres. All flashings to be turned 150mm up walls and building paper to be lapped over outside of flashing.

3. Articulation Joints - to be installed as per engineering plan provided. A Js must be 10mm wide and free of any mortar residue.

4. Sill Clearance - A clearance must be provided between the top of the sill and the bottom of the window of 5mm on a single storey and 10mm on a second storey window. All sills to be flush with wall at base of sill. All sills to have consistent fall around the house.

5. Wall Tiles - Wall tiles must be fixed at 600mm centres and 300mm at openings

6. Quality of Work - All brickwork must comply with the building code of Aust. The following is a guide to some tolerances : All bed and perpend joints must be consistent throughout the whole job with 10mm being ideal, and a tolerance of +or- 3mm on bed joints and 5mm on perpends. Walls must be within +or- 10mm of plumb over a 3m height and straight to within +or- 3mm.

7. Blending - Bricks must blended as per suppliers requirements. When loading always mix from at least 3 packs.

8. For all jointing apart from flush, all brickwork must be dry brushed to remove excess mortar build up on bricks, within nooks & crannies on the bricks. This must be continuously whilst jointing bricks.

9. Housekeeping - Batts etc to be placed in pile. Pallets to be stacked at front of job. Remove excess mortar from edge of slab and garage floor.
