Scaffold Vicinity

  • Has public protection been provided and is there adequate control measures over vehicle movements in and around the scaffolds?

Ground Conditions

  • Has the scaffold been erected a safe distance away from service trenches and excavations?

  • Please attach relevant photos as necessary

Access & Egress Points

  • Is there safe access and egress to every scaffold and scaffold working platform?

  • Are temporary stairways correctly installed and of good condition?

  • Are portable ladders of an industrial grade, serviceable and correctly installed, extending platforms by 1.0 metre?

  • Please attach relevant photos as necessary

Scaffold Structure

  • Are soleboards and baseplates in position, of suitable material, in a serviceable conditions and secure?

  • Are the standards bearing firmly (i.e., not floating), plumb, positioned at correct spacing and fully secured?

  • Are ledgers in position as required, continuous, at correct heights and fully secured?

  • Are transoms in position as required and fully secured?

  • Is the scaffold bracing satisfactory as per the design and/or manufacturers guidelines?

  • Are ties correctly positioned and correctly fixed?

  • Please attach relevant photos as necessary

Scaffold Working Platforms & Loading Bays

  • Are the scaffold working platforms suitable for all trades requiring to work from scaffolds?

  • Where there are steps installed within the working platforms, has the scaffold contractor taken the necessary precautions to highlight these and to protect against contact (ie., clear warning signage and protection as per contract terms)?

  • Is there satisfactory edge protection around all working platforms, including the provision of brick-guards?

  • Are the scaffold boards noted in good condition and without excessive spring? (Note, "BS2482:2009 Specification For Timber Scaffold" states that the safe limit of spring on a timber scaffold board is 10mm.)

  • Are scaffold platforms boards secured as necessary to prevent being dislodged and potentially being lifted in high winds?

  • Are all loading bays fitted with the specified "up-and-over" type, fully working with no reported defects?

  • Can you confirm that all areas of the scaffold do not exceed the maximum clearance of 225mm from exterior of the building under construction?

  • Do lap boards have a minimum overlap of 500mm between working platforms and have they been secured to prevent these being dislodged by pedestrian traffic and / or high winds?

  • Please attach relevant photos as necessary

Debris Netting (Where Required)

  • Has the scaffold been designed for wind loading to accommodate debris netting?

  • Please attach relevant photos as necessary

Distribution

    - CBRL Site Team (Site Manager / General Foreman)
    - CBRL H&S/IMS Department
    - Scaffold Sub-Contractor – with comments noting immediate rectification of defects to be noted
