LIFT

A. Lift Loading and Capacity

  • Signage is posted on the lift usage type i.e. passengers lift, goods lift, service lift, Bomba lift, etc.

  • A capacity plate bearing the contract load is permanently and securely fastened in the lift car.

  • Passenger lift - capacity load is given in number or persons and pounds.

  • Goods lift - loads are given in pounds, for emergency purposes, in number of persons calculated at 150 pounds per person.

B. Machine/ Motor Rooms

  • The room is restricted for lift machine and associated equipment only

  • The room is soundly constructed, weather proof and adequately ventilated

  • The room is provided with permanent electric lighting. At least one socket and plug for a hand-lamp are provided.

  • The room is clean and storage is limited for materials required for the maintenance / operation of the lift.

C. Lift Well

  • Not more than four (4) lifts are located in one lift well.

D. Landing Doors

  • The lift doors do not cause any injury to any person

  • The lift door can be opened manually at any landing floor in the event of power failure.

E. Car Doors and Gates

  • The lift has less than two (2) entrances.

  • Lift door electric switch that allows lift movement after all doors are closed is not accessible from the lift car.

F. Escape Hatches

  • Escape hatch is provided in every passenger lift car.

  • The escape hatch provided in the top of a lift car shall be: <br> a. Unobstructed by any fixed equipment <br> b. Can be opened outwards <br> c. Can be hinged/ attached to the car top so that the cover can be opened from the top of the car only

  • Keys for the escape hatch is kept in the premises by the person responsible for the maintenance and operation of the lift and in a location readily available to an authorized person only in the case of emergency

G. Ventilation

  • Adequate permanent ventilation is provided in every lift car.

H. Lighting

  • Every lift car is well litted, at least two (2) lamps in each car.

  • Light bulbs / tubes in every lift car are guarded to prevent injury to persons from breakage of the bulbs / tubes.

I. General

  • All lifts are provided with emergency signal that can be operated from a car and is clearly audible outside the lift well.

  • An emergency switch is provided on the top of every lift car which will prevent the car from being operated when the switch is open.

J. Duties of SDP

  • Every lift is adequately maintained.

  • To appoint an approved firm to conduct periodic examination and maintenance.

  • "To inform DOSH on the appointment of the approved firm: <br> a. Name & address of the approved firm. <br> b. Date of commencement of such agreement. <br> c. Expiry of the agreement.

  • The agreement must be of not less than one (1) year, and shall state the name of the competent person who will conduct periodic examination and maintenance.

  • The competent person to examine the lift three (3) months once.The competent person is to service and adjust the lift once a month.

  • A register of every lift is kept on the premises to record: <br> a. Details of examination, servicing and adjustments. <br> b. Details of lift repair considered necessary by the competent person & date of the repair c. Details of any failures resulting the lift being immobilized. <br>d. Other information as directed by DOSH. <br> The register shall be updated by the competent person within one (1) week after the examination / servicing / adjusments.

  • Owner to ensure that the repairs recommended are carried out.

  • The lift well and pit is maintained dry & clean

  • No material is placed on top of the lift car.

  • The lift is not operated a load greater that the load specified in the PMA and the car plate fitted in the lift.

  • If the lift is not automatic, it can be operated by an attendant of 18 years old & above.

  • No wire or current carrying device is substituted for the proper fuse or circuit -breaker of any lift control circuit.

H. Notices

  • PMA is posted in the lift car or adjacent to the bottom terminal landing.

  • Goods lift - suitable notices is posted in the lift car and each landing prohibiting unauthorized persons from riding in or on the car.

  • A notice is posted at the ground floor landing on: name and telephone number of the person to be contacted should any failure of the lift occur.

  • A notice inside the lift car is posted on instruction to passenger to sound the alarm bell should any failure of the lift occur.

GYM

  • Equipment is well maintained and has no broken or loose attachment

  • Equipment is regularly cleaned and tested

  • Gym is well ventilated

  • There is enough space between equipment to prevent accidents and overcrowding

  • The lighting is adequate

  • Instructions and pictures covering any unusual hazards or complicated features on the equipment

  • Clear warning notices and correct using techniques

  • Emergency Exits signs are illuminated
