Part A – MINOR STORAGE <br><br>Definition of Minor Storage: <br>-In packages <5kg or 5L and in total <20kg or 20L <br>-Per AS 2714 – Storage & Handling of Class 5.2 Organic Peroxides <br>-Note: If quantity greater than Minor Storage above, refer to Part B – Package Storage (page 2)

KEY REQUIREMENTS per AS 2714 – Storage & Handing Organic Peroxides

  • Packages stored on surfaces resistant to attack from spills

  • Storage and handling area ventilated

  • Storage NOT in proximity to direct heat or ignition sources

  • Storage below recommended maximum storage temperature given in MSDS

  • Decanting only into clearly marked clean organic peroxide resistant containers

  • Adequate supply of water available for first aid and safety eyewash facility

  • Containers kept closed when not in use

  • Spills attended to promptly

COMMON REQUIREMENTS e.g., Minor Storage & Packaging Areas

  • Reg: 401 – Consultation with H&S Rep on risk assessment and control

  • 402 – Induction, training & supervision on DG’s provided

  • 405 – Risk assessment completed and re-done < 5 years

  • Reg: 413 - Unauthorized access prevented e.g. site or departmental access controls

  • 421 - DG storage protected from impact e.g. barriers if vehicular traffic

  • 434 - Spill kit accessible always (could be shared with other storage areas)

  • 438 – MSDS’s readily accessible for all DG’s e.g. in vicinity of use

  • 442 - Register of DG’s maintained & up to date

  • COP 39.3 - Quantity of DG’s kept to minimum required e.g. Limited to one day’s supply

  • - Decanting only in designated bunded area or spill trays

  • - All containers labelled & in approved containers

Part B – PACKAGING <br>-Definition of Packaging: <br>-Individual packages of capacity >5kg or 5L, per AS 2714 Organic Peroxides <br><br>

KEY REQUIREMENTS per AS 2714 – Storage & Handling Organic Peroxides

  • Store constructed of non-combustible materials

  • Store vented at low and high level

  • Decanting area graded to contain spills >3m clearance from other substances which may react or contaminate

  • Sources of ignition not <3m from opening of store

  • Storage cabinets fitted with self-closing doors and a liquid tight button

  • Cabinet located not <3m from ignition source

  • Cabinet clearly marked

  • Bunding provided with capacity for 25% of the total volume of stored organic peroxides or capacity of the layout container, whichever is larger

  • Racks constructed of non-combustible materials >100mm clear of floor

  • Packages not stacked on shelves >1.3m above shelf or >1.3 deep

  • Packages stored <100mm to a wall, shelf or other structure

  • Store located on the ground floor of building

  • Personal protective equipment available as required by MSDS’s e.g. protective gloves, apron and face shield or goggles when decanting

  • Substances stored in original packages with original markings

  • Permit to work required for maintenance work in storage area

  • Personal hygiene procedure displayed in work area

  • Emergency plan in place in case of fire, explosion, spill or reaction

  • Waste storage facilities provided for items contaminated with organic peroxides e.g. empty containers, clothing, spills

  • Empty containers neutralized per MSDS before disposal

  • Fire hose reel and two portable dry chemical fire extinguishers located in vicinity of storage cabinet
