Safe Work Procedure (SWP) exists for un/loading flatbed trucks on site. If this task is only performed by contractors request they show evidence of having a procedure for this task
-
Staff trained in SWP. Only staff deemed competent allowed to perform task.
-
Wear the correct PPE e.g. leather gloves, safety footwear, and Hi-Viz clothing.
-
Load and unload trucks off-the street, where possible. When loading on & off on the street establish a clear zone i.e. using witches hats, and ideally on the same side of the road as the dealership
-
Plan deliveries to minimise time on the road to reduce obstruction to or risks from traffic.
-
Assign a spotter or lookout person, if possible to monitor/direct traffic and assist the loading of the vehicles if required
-
Ensure that truck and trailer combinations are in straight alignment.
-
Lock ramps into position, using a minimum of two persons.
-
If operating hydraulically activated ramps, ensure area under ramps is clear before lowering
-
Setup the removable side railings on the tray of the truck, if available, or alternatively have a portable ladder to assist person’s access onto the tray of the truck.
-
Once loaded secure the ramps and vehicles to the truck, so they do not move or fall from the truck during transportation. If using hydraulically activated ramps, ensure that these are locked into transport position
