  • Inspect condition of lifting pads to ensure they are not worn, split, broken or cracked

  • Operating controls clearly labelled and working correctly (test function without load)

  • Safety devices in good condition, and working correctly

  • Visually inspect hoist structure for any obvious signs of impact damage, excessive wear or cracking.

  • Visually check hoist for air or hydraulic leaks

  • Visually check for any loose or missing components

  • Access and clearance provisions are kept clear e.g. unobstructed work area.

  • Any guards are correctly fitted

  • Check lifting arm lock operation, where applicable

  • Hoist area is clean and free of oil/grease spillage

  • Visually inspect the structural components including welding, and other critical components such as fasteners, pins, shafts and locking devices

  • Operating instructions affixed

  • Visually inspect steel wire ropes and pullies for wear or fraying

  • Visually inspect on screw operated hoists, screws, nuts and the thrust bearings for damage or wear.

  • Visually check hydraulic rams

  • Visually check all bolts & attachments for security

  • 3 monthly inspection & maintenance by trained operator

  • Annual inspection & maintenance by a qualified hoist specialist per AS 2550.9.

  • Maintenance records held & up to date

  • Check 10 yearly Major Assessment is not over-due e.g. Conducted by a qualified hoist specialist to confirm the suitability for continued operation per clause 6.3.5.1 of AS 2550.9.
