Diving

  • A SWMS/JSA has been developed to ensure hazards have been identified, assessed and controlled, taking into account the nature of the work, foreseeable contingencies and the training of workers exposed to the hazards.

  • Diving SWMS/JSAs have been established and identify, assess and control risks in accordance with jurisdictional legislation, standards and codes and taking into account the nature of work, foreseeable contingencies and divers competency for underwater work.

  • Diving hazards may include (but not limited to)<br>Hyperbaric and physiological factors.<br>Marine animals.<br>Shipping movements<br>Water inlets<br>Use of hazardous materials or explosives.<br>Entrapment, entanglement with moving parts.<br>Falling objects etc.

  • Records of divers competency (diving certificate) is available and conforms with jurisdictional requirements.

  • Work methods have been developed in accordance with legislative requirements and applicable standards (eg AS 2299)

  • Documented occupational dive work methods are available and are in accordance with legislative requirements and standards.

  • Emergency and rescue procedures that have been developed specifically address and control the risks involved with the works.

  • An emergency plan or response plan has been established that considers diving related emergency scenarios where relevant and include first aid, rescue, evacuation to nearest decompression facility and missing diver.

  • Resuscitation procedures are available.

  • Emergency equipment which may include, first aid, oxygen, rescue boards, flotation devices and ropes etc are available at the project site.

  • Drill records of dive related emergency response scenarios.

  • There is evidence of continual monitoring of associated hazards eg water conditions and weather.

  • Documented process/procedure (or similar document) that identifies a process for ensuring continual monitoring of risks associated with diving works and including methods such as inspection, task safety observation and use of dive safety logs.

  • Weather, water and tide conditions are reviewed prior to dive work and monitored throughout the dive.

  • Dive safety logs available.

  • Inspection and observation records available.

  • Appropriate PPE/protection is in place to reduce the level of risk and exposure to an acceptable level, in accordance with the SWMS/JSAs and relevant legislation.

  • Specific PPE/protection is available and worn during activities as detailed within the SWMS/JSAs and relevant jurisdictional legislation

  • Other hazard related activity.
