    • Provide clear instructions to the driver regarding the routes and that particular attention will be paid to safe driving practices.

Engine Start-Up & Driving

Engine Start-Up

  • Check park brake is on

  • Ensure vehicle is in neutral

  • No acceleration unit oil pressure is normal

  • Check warning & ancillary systems (gauges)

  • Gaull air pressure is obtained before moving off

  • Seat belt is on

Vehicle Movement, Moving Off

  • No acceleration used to move off

  • Correct gear selected to avoid clutch shudder

  • Low revs maintained until engine reaches normal operating temperature

  • Acceleration is smooth

  • No jerking or uneven power flow

Vehicle Movement, In Motion

  • Gear change is withing the engine operating range

  • Clutch is used in gear changes

  • Keeping revs low in keeping with progressive gearing changing techniques

  • Gear change is smooth

  • Hill decent (appropriate gear for decline engaged)

Vehicle Movement, Turning Corners

  • Braking is carried out prior to entering the corner

  • Correct gear is selected to negotiate corners & turns

Reversing the Vehicle

  • Position the vehicle correctly to ensure ease of operation

  • Selected the correct gear to maintain control & low speed of vehicle

  • Use mirrors where possible to observe the progress

  • Use traffic markers as required when reversing to silos

  • Maintain the safe and efficient distance for unloading at silos

Parking & Shutdown

  • Truck is parked in the appropriate location

  • Park brake applied

  • Neutral gear is selected

  • Truck is left clean and tidy

Unloading Feed

  • Driver demonstrates the correct procedure to locate silo and ensure the correct feed is delivered, and checks silo levels

  • Driver ensures a safe and efficient distance is maintained from the silo to unload

  • Driver demonstrates the correct procedure when connecting the blower pipes

  • Driver demonstrates the correct procedure when operating the blower and rotary seal

  • Driver continually monitors during the unloading process and maintains a safe height for the tipper trailer

Coupling & Uncouple Trailer

Coupling Trailer

  • Align vehicle turntable to trailer skid plate

  • Apply park brakes

  • Ensure turntable jaws are unblocked

  • Use of dump valve - (where applicable) adjust ride height to match fifth wheel to skid plate height

  • Check landing legs are clear of ground prior to completing coupling

  • Connect service & emergency airlines & light plug

  • Turn on air taps if applicable

  • inspect for damage & air leaks

  • Check & secure trailer landing legs

  • Remove wheel chocks if applicable

  • After reversing prime mover to couple, test against trailer brakes (tug test)

  • Test trailer brakes

Uncouple Trailer

  • Align prime mover & trailers

  • Apply park brake

  • Turn off air taps if applicable

  • Wind down landing legs, baulk with timber if needed

  • Disconnect service, emergency air lines & light plug

  • Chock trailer wheels if applicable

  • Release turntable locking pin or ring feeder pin
