Scoring Criteria
Compliant – No shortfalls identified, criteria met or standards required achieved
Partially Compliant – Minor shortfalls identified in the standard or requirement, minor opportunities for improvement identified and the standard is still to an acceptable level. (For Example -PAT Testing – Most items tested and in date however a few units have been missed)
Non-Compliant – The standard or requirement has not been achieved and deemed to be unacceptable. Immediate action is required to address the shortfall/s (Example – PAT Testing – Most items out of date and not tested) -
Content of storage vessel or container is clear – Containers, tanks, IBC`s, bottles containing substances should have clear information regarding the content
-
Hazard information – Information labels for substances should use the correct hazard symbols were applicable.
-
Storage – Are chemicals stored securely and COSHH cabinet locked? (Reactivity must be considered during storage e.g oxidizers/fuels require segregation)
-
Substance risk assessments. – Are COSHH assessments available for the substance being used, either in the Work Pack or accessible via Sypol (Can working party demonstrate that they can access Sypol and obtain details for substance being used at the point of work)
-
Control Measures - Are control measures stated within the COSHH assessment in place (i.e. PPE, LEV)
-
Emergency equipment – Are the emergency provisions available and in good condition in the event of a loss of containment or exposure (i.e. Eyewash bottles, spill kits)
-
Secondary containment – Chemicals or substances should always have secondary containment (bunds). These should not be full of rain water and capable of holding at the content of at least one of the containers stored on it. (Danger !! do not assume clear liquid is rain water ! )
-
COSHH Storage during Transport / in Vans - COSHH items removed from vans when not in use (i.e. Gas Bottles etc..) Storage of Non Hazardous Substances well controlled and good levels of housekeeping maintained (i.e. No grease or spills on floor of van/s, Gas cylinders tethered and stored correctly if in use)
-
Gas Cylinder Storage - Are Gas Cylinders stored in a locked cage with correct signage and segregated where applicable? (i.e. Inert segregated from flammable)
-
Gas Cylinder Use - Is the correct regulator fitted, inspected and in good condition? Ensure hoses are in good condition with no leaks? (Not cracked, kinked or holed)
