Safety checklist

  • Fire extinguishers are inspected and in good condition?

  • Safety signs are present and in good condition? Signs are legible and in view?

  • Exits signs are in place. All exits and travel paths identified with illuminated signs. Battery backup and light works?

  • Exits- operational and unlocked. Free of obstructions

  • Eye wash stations. Inspect for leaks, corrosion,stoppage and odor

  • Evacuation diagrams posted throughout the building.

  • Smoke alarms are operational. New batteries etc.

  • AED is available and inspected?

  • First aid stations are available and in good order

  • Flame storage cabinet- vented, clean, locked

Electrical

  • Electrical rooms are clean and unobstructed? 36" clearance around panels

  • Panels are labeled with warning and danger signs?

  • Panels are in good shape, no open areas, no exposed wires?

  • Lockout tag outs are available?

  • Receptacles- inspect for damage and proper operation

  • GFI-provided on circuits in proximity to water

  • Electrical switches are operational

  • No extension cords are in permanent use

Lighting

  • Adequate lighting for work stations

  • All lights bulbs are working

  • Check for cracks in covers

  • Blast proof covers where needed

General building

  • Walls are clean and in good shape

  • Tile and carpet- look for loose or broke tile. Look for unraveled or damaged carpet. Threshold are properly secured.

  • All transitions in walkways are in good shape. Check for cracks,breaks, ends sticking up.

  • Doors- open and close properly. All hardware operational. No missing hardware or screws

  • Counters- check for cracks and breaks

Bathrooms

  • Sinks- check for stoppage, corrosion and odors. Check for drips and leaks

  • Toilets- check for secure toilet seats, corrosion, proper flushing and odors

  • Urinals- check for proper flushing, drain obstructions, and corrosion of plumbing

  • Soap dispensers- operability

  • Stall petitions- check all hardware and make sure doors close and lock. Toilet paper holders are secure and operational.

  • Bathroom exhaust- check if fan is clean, strange noises and good air flow

  • Floor drains are clean and unobstructed

  • Trash cans are available

  • Paper towels or hand drying equipment is available. Toilet paper is available.

  • Hot water tank- check for leaks, and corrosion. Check secondary pan and pressure relief valve.

  • Check on demand water heaters. Make sure low flow screen are in place and not clogged. Check for hot water.

Appliances

  • Ice machine- check for cleanliness and proper ice making

  • Stoves and ranges- check cleanliness. Look for cracked covers and missing knobs. Make sure all types of burners work. Check for burned wires

  • Hood fans- check filters, venting and grease build up

  • Refrigerators- check seals and drain tubes. Check for cleanliness.

Air conditioner

  • Check air filters. Inspect for damage, icing, noise, and leaks. Clean coils. Check drain lines and secondary pan for water

Storage areas

  • Limited to designated areas

  • Proper shelving provided?

  • Shelves labeled with weight rating?

  • Check for overhanging boxes and merchandise. Check for over weight items.

  • Step ladder available?

  • Hand truck available and in good condition?

  • Storage areas are neatly arranged and secured

Automatic doors

  • Check for proper operation, missing hardware, and obstructions in track. Consult a professional company to do detailed inspection.
