Hazards

  • Working in close vicinity of or in a shallow trench

  • Manual lifting heavy cables

  • Working near machinery

  • Live wires up poles - we are only allowed 3m high

  • Live wires in turrets - we are only allowed when Aurora present

Control Measures

  • Ensure Dial b4 you dig has been contacted and information provided is used

  • Notify people in area when digging trench

  • Barricade trench if necessary

  • Use 2 people to lift when required

  • Use safety manual handling techniques

  • Keep away from machine working area

Procedure

  • OVERHEAD
    1. Run cables through timber framing
    2. Drill hole in facia
    3. Fit noggen for Aurora hook

  • UNDERGROUND
    1. Mark existing services
    2. Dig trench
    3. Lay cables, cover & tape
    4. Back fill trench
    5. Fit pole cover
    6. Leave saddles etc
    7. Turret - Leave cables outside until tee up

  • BOTH
    1. Mount switchboard
    2. Connect active to meter
    3. Sweat neutral & connect
    4. Drive in earth stake & connect
    5. Fit earth tag
    6. Connect MEN link - then remove
    7. Test active - to neutral
    8. Test active - to earth
    9. Test neutral - to earth
    10. Reconnect MEN
    11. Fill in CEC
