This procedure applies when re-wiring all houses or sheds

Do you have all the PPE required?

  • Steel capped boots

  • Hi-vis clothing

  • Mask (when required)

  • Safety glasses (when required)

  • Hearing protection (when required)

Hazards

  • Working at heights (ladders & scaffold

  • Cuts & scrapes from nails & sharp brackets

  • Slips, trips & falls from leads or untidy work area

  • Use of power tools - electrocution & trips

  • Manual handling of large drums of cable

Control Measures

  • Ensure ladders & scaffold are in good condition

  • Ensure ladders & scaffold have level footing

  • Take care when nailing & drilling

  • Watch out for builders brackets & nails

  • Keep work area tidy

  • Be aware of other tradesmen on site

  • Use manual handling techniques when lifting drums of cable

Procedure

  • 1. Isolate all existing electrical items (Follow MCW050 procedure)
    2. Remove all old fittings / cable – make redundant
    3. Nail stud brackets on studs where required
    4. Determine new lighting points (discuss with customer)
    5. Install cable for new electrical items e.g. GPO & lights
    6. Mark all lights out on plan
    7. Ensure house us safe to re-energize
    8. Complete fit out sheet
    9. Pack up all cable and tools
    10. Tidy working area
    11. Complete jobsheets including recording all materials used
