Walkways, transition areas and working areas

  • Are internal and external walkways and working areas clean and clear of slip, trip and fall hazards

  • Are working surfaces kept dry, or are wet areas kept free from slip hazards through the use of non-slip mats or false floors?

  • Are hoses and electrical service cords positioned to prevent injury to workers or damage to the hoses and cords themselves (e.g., cable trays, beneath grating, stowed overhead)?

  • Are exit routes clearly marked “Exit,” as well as indicating the direction of travel to the exit, if not immediately apparent?

  • Are Emergency exits, fire protection equipment, electrical panels and other safety equipment from from obstruction and accessible at all times?

Lighting

  • Are lighting fixtures in good working order?

  • Are lighting fixtures clean, allowing for optimal lighting levels?

  • Are exit routes, hallways, stairs, work areas and walkways sufficiently lit?

Material Handling and Storage

  • Are flammable and combustible substances, such as paint thinners, solvents, being disposed of or stored in non-combustible cabinets s at the end of each work shift, or when the job is completed, whichever occurs first?

  • Has manual handling equipment (forklifts and other equipment) been inspected on a daliy basis?

  • Are appropriate signs in place to notify workers and visitors of possible hazards?

  • Are materials stored in their designated place and stacked to avoid fall or collapse?

Waste Disposal

  • Are any combustible materials (disused pallets, cardboard cartons etc) stored well separated to/from external walls (ie not adjacent to external walls)?

  • Are any bulk waste bins stored a minimum 6 metres from external building walls or internal to the building after hours

  • Is there a schedule in place and followed for emptying garbage cans to prevent overfilling?

  • Are garbage cans intended for disposing of food emptied daily and outfitted with solid tight-fitting covers?

General Housekeeping

  • Are the lint filters in the dryers cleaned after each use?

  • Are the extraction systems installed above any stove top within the camp kitchen cleaned at least weekly including filters and canopy?

  • Are the shared BBQ's cleaned after each use and subject to a twice weekly clean by staff during periods of high occupation
