Mobile scaffold tower inspection checklist

  • Is the tower complete for access requirements and in good overall condition?

  • Are all the components in good, clean condition?

  • Check the scaffold frame is free from any signs of damage, such as bent or cracked components and that all frame sections are securely connected and locked into place

  • Check that guardrails/handrails and toe-boards/toe board holders are installed and securely attached in the correct place so to help prevent falls from height and falling objects such as tools or materials being kicked off the side

  • Are all the bars clean and free from damage, dents, dirt, grease etc

  • Do all the catches on the bars open up ok and lock back into place?

  • Are the side sections in good, clean condition?

  • Are the section security clips in place on each section and do they lock in ok?

  • Ensure the platform deck is free from debris, tools or materials (unless currently in use for the task being completed)

  • If applicable, test the level adjustment mechanism on the wheels/legs to ensure they function smoothly and securely level the tower safely - Remember, the adjustment on the wheel/legs is for levelling up only and not to gain extra height!

  • Inspect all wheels for damage, wear, and proper rotation

  • Test the brakes to ensure they are functional and capable of locking the scaffold into place

  • Check stabilisers/outriggers are deployed correctly (if in use). It is always good practice to install outriggers/stabillisers on any type of mobile tower but may not always be practical when only working on the first level. If only working one level up then an assessment can be made (by PASMA trained person) as to whether they are needed - any higher though and outriggers/stabilisers are required!

  • Comment in relation to the above

  • Inspect the access ladder for stability and secure attachment. Ensure the ladder rungs are in good condition and free from defects, grease or debris

  • Check the hatch is spring loaded/closes back down or cannot be left open when not in use. Also check latch on it works ok too

  • Check the scaffold tower is plumb and level to ensure stability during use

  • Is this mobile scaffold tower ok to be put into use at this time (7 day check)?

  • Comments, notes or issues. All must be addressed with supervisor/manager
