Portable Electrical Tools and Equipment (PETE)

  • Are all items of PETE within inspection & test date? (i.e. within the last 3 months) and fitted with a current test tag.<br>Include details of items checked and the test and tag number for each.

  • Are all RCD’s within inspection and test date? (i.e. within the last month) and fitted with a current test tag.<br>Include details of items checked and the test and tag number for each.

  • Are all items of PETE been used supplied via an RCD?

  • Is there an up to date PETE register? And is required information documented?

  • Are there danger tags available? (i.e for tagging of defective equipment)

  • Are all portable GPO outlets weatherproof?

  • Are all flexible cords/leads positioned or protected to avoid damage?

  • Are all flexible cords/leads of a length less than or equal to those shown in the attached table?

  • Are all flexible cords/leads installed off the ground? (Note: cords/leads only to be placed on ground within switchyard areas)

  • Are all portable generators clearly labelled with earthing requirements?

AS/NZS 3012 – Construction Wiring Temporary Switchboards

  • Are all switchboards of robust construction and have a minimum <br>IP23 rating?<br>

  • Are all live parts of the switchboard effectively protected from direct contact?

  • Where GPO outlets are fitted, is there an insulated tie bar to prevent strain on cords/leads?

  • Is the switchboard securely fixed in position or on a design stable free standing structure?

  • Are all main switches and isolating switches accessible clearly marked (min of 6mm text) and capable of being locked in an open position?

  • Are all switchboards and sub circuits clearly marked via unique identifications marks?

  • Is the switchboard fitted with a lockable door? <br>The door shall;<br>• Fitted with a means to retain in the open position<br>• Fitted with a sign indicating “KEEP CLOSED - RUN ALL LEADS THROUGH BOTTOM”<br>• Not damage cords/leads when closed.<br>

  • Are all RCD’s and MCB’s covered and locked to prevent unauthorised access?

  • Are all sub-circuits protected by an RCD?

  • Is the construction wiring marked every 5 metres with yellow tape & the words “construction wiring”?

  • Is any aerial wiring across vehicle access points flagged 6m either side at 0.6m below the cable?

  • Is there a copy of the certificate of electrical safety for the temporary construction wiring?

  • Has the temporary construction wiring been visually inspected and tested by a qualified electrician within the last 6 months? (earth continuity and insulation resistance)

  • Are the roofs of all temporary buildings clear of temporary wiring?
