Non Compliance

  • Reason for non compliance:

  • The building’s communal TV system MUST be earth bonded to the current CAI (Confederation of Ariel Industries) guidelines for communal system set ups. The system within your building does not meet the required standard for Sky to complete the install. Therefore, you will have to engage with your building Management Agent/Factor to resolve the earth bonding issues.

  • The equipment located in this head-end / switch location are not earthed or bonded correctly. This needs to be rectified before any works can take place.

  • The building’s communal TV system MUST meet certain satellite signal levels in order for Sky to complete an upgrade to allow you to have Sky Q/Sky+HD in your property. Our engineer has completed a number of checks on the system and has found some issues with the signals on the system.

  • Signal issues:

  • Signal levels from the existing multiswitch are not within the working range for the dCSS.
    POWER. 65-85dBuV (Strength)
    MER. 10dB or higher (Quality)
LKM/Noise Margin. 2.8dB of higher (Quality)

  • Details:

  • Attached to this report are datalogs taken on the day of the visit showing the signal recorded on the communal system. You will have to engage with your building Management Agent/Factor to discuss the signal incompatibility/issue in your building and if they are able to resolve these.

  • Signal levels from the existing system are not within the working range for the dSCR.
    POWER. 65-104dBuV (Strength)
    MER. 10dB or higher (Quality)
LKM/Noise Margin. 2.8dB of higher (Quality)

  • The current communal MDU system has failing signal levels for satellite signals on either signal power levels or signal quality levels across a number of transponders on the Astra satellites.

  • Detail:

  • Attached to this report are the datalogs taken on the day of the visit showing the signal recorded on the communal system. You will have to engage with your building Management Agent/Factor to discuss the signal incompatibility/issues in your building and if they are able to resolve these.

  • A single cable has been run from the communal system to the property. Unfortunately for Sky Q, the dCSS Plug-In Adapter cannot be installed onto a multi-switch on a single feed communal system unless there is mains power available in the headend for the dCSS.

  • If no mains power is available, there are two options that can be implemented for residents to be able to have Sky Q:
    • The properties Managing Agent/Factor can arrange for a plug socket to be installed by a qualified electrical contractor.
    • The communal system can be upgraded with a dSCR multi-switch. This will need to be carried out by the Managing Agents/Factors contractor.

  • Head end photo:

  • Multi-Satellite systems can also be referred to as 9, 13 or 17 wire communal systems.
The resident has the ability to choose between two or more satellite providers via the same subscriber cables that supply the property

  • Unfortunately, for Sky Q, the dCSS Plug-In Adapter cannot be installed onto a multi-satellite multi-switch, even if the other satellite provider is redundant or not present.
In order for Sky Q to be installed, the communal system will need to be upgraded with a dSCR multi-switch. This will need to be carried out by the Managing Agents/Factors contractor.

  • Head end photo:

  • The building’s communal TV system MUST be accessed so that we can check and ensure that the communal system is compatible for the Sky Q/Sky+HD install and fit equipment. Unfortunately, the engineer has been unable to access the system due to either the location, or access is locked and there are no keys available.
Please engage with your building Management Agent/Factor to resolve the access issues.
