The Facility

 • Secure from entry of unauthorized personnel

 • Are the certification and biohazard stickers attached to all entries to the facility?

 • Does the facility have an anteroom?

 • If dealings can be disseminated through arthropods, does anteroom have strategies to prevent this?

 • Maintained so that it is a fully enclosed space, bound by walls, doors, windows, ceilings. Doors and windows must be lockable.

 • Any joints between structural components must be sealed with a material that cannot be penetrated by the GMO being contained.

 • Do other openings within facility (such as vents) have fine mesh screens to prevent entry or exit of arthropods?

 • Doors must be self closing and be capable of preventing escape of the GMOs (eg. seals on all edges).

 • Surfaces are maintained so that they continue to be smooth, impermeable to water, cleanable and resistant to damage by cleaning agents and/or disinfectants in use:
- walls, floors and benches
- furniture including seating
- any other surface where decontamination is likely or decontamination is required.

 • Are drainage exits fitted with barriers (liquid traps or mesh) to prevent animals or arthropods from entering or exiting the facility?

 • Does the facility have a pest control system in place?

Equipment

 • Handwash basin, with hands free operation, or suitable alternate available.

 • Facility has designated storage or hanging provisions for protective clothing.

 • Facility has at least one arthropod trap effective for the GMOs being contained in the facility.

Decontamination

 • Are disinfectants effective against GMOs available in the facility for decontamination?

 • Is there appropriate labeling such as volumes and expiration dates?

 • Are autoclaves used for the decontamination of waste prior to disposal?

 • - are autoclaves calibrated annually and are records for last 5 years available?

 • - are autoclaves validated monthly and are records for the last 12 months available?

 • Is waste decontaminated at site other than facility?

 • Staff are trained to perform decontamination.

 • Work benches are decontaminated when dealings are complete.

 • Are equipment and work surfaces are decontaminated before maintenance or removal from the facility?

 • Is contaminated PPE decontaminated?

Backflow prevention

 • Is there any equipment attached to the potable water supply?

 • Has a risk assessment been conducted on possible contamination of the water supply?

 • Has a backflow prevention device been fitted for the facility or tap (not building)?

 • Has the backflow prevention device been tested annually and are records available?

Behaviour Requirements

 • Facility doors are closed while dealings are in progress.

 • Windows are closed when work with GMOs is being conducted.

 • All life stages of the arthropods must be contained in primary containers that are designed to prevent escape.

 • All primary containers are labelled to enable identification.

 • Personal protective clothing is worn while dealings are being conducted.

 • Arthropods are rendered non-viable prior to disposal.

 • Are hands decontaminated prior to leaving the facility?

Storage and removal of GMOs

 • Viable GM arthropods or arthropods containing GM micro-organisms must not be stored outside of facility.

 • All unlabelled viable material is treated as GMO.

 • Procedures are in place to ensure non-GMO work is not cross-contaminated and procedures are documented?

• Viable GMOs not to be removed unless moving to OGTR certified facility.

 • In the event of transport out of the facility, is the outermost container free from contamination?

Records
