Compliance Questions

1. Health and Safety

  • 1.1: Is the work area safe and free from obstacles or trip hazards

  • 1.2: Is the blast equipment, (hoses and compressor) free from damage and in good condition

  • 1.3: Are all operators wearing the correct PPE for their task

2. Surface Preparation (before welding)

  • Record Pipe ID

  • 2.1: Is the pipe end ready for blasting with the ovality and bevel completed

  • 2.2: Is the abrasive the correct type (e.g., grit size, material) and stored properly on-site to prevent contamination or damage

  • Provide a photo of the product data label, including batch number

  • 2.3: Are environmental conditions monitored and recorded before and during blasting

  • check and record the relative humidity and dew point in relation to the steel temperature

  • 2.4: Is the steel surface cleaned and prepared to the specified cleanliness and profile, with the results recorded

  • SA 2½, 50-100 µm

  • 2.5: Are salt contamination tests conducted and recorded after abrasive blasting, with chlorides levels below 20 mg/m²

  • Select the method

  • 2.6: Is the existing FBE coating edge feathered and a visual inspected performed to ensure no delamination

  • 2.7: Is the pipe clean and free from abrasive materials or debris

  • 2.8: Is the pipe cap fitted to protect the open end

3. Paint Application (Robot)

  • Record the Weld ID

  • 3.1: Has the weld joint been released for coating, is the welding and NDT complete, and has the joint number been clearly documented for reporting

  • 3.2: Have all functionality checks been completed before insertion into the pipe, camera, blaster, and vacuum working

  • 3.3: Have environmental conditions (relative humidity, steel temperature, and dew point) been taken and recorded before starting the coating process

  • 3.4: Has the uncoated cutback area been sweep blasted to the required cleanliness standard (Sa 2.5)

  • 3.5: Has the existing FBE coating been feathered and given a profile to provide a key for the new coating

  • 3.6: Is the weld area free from spatter, sharp edges, and excess root penetration?

  • 3.7: Is the area to be coated free from dust particles and anomalies?

  • 3.8: Has the daily paint mix and ratio check been completed, including the cup test, and results recorded both before and after application

  • 3.9: Is the application free from repair and surface defects, such as sags, runs and pinholes

  • 3.10: Have the correct Dry Film Thickness (DFT) measurements been achieved and recorded

  • DFT measured at 8 points around the joint

  • 3.11: Is the coated area free from holidays, tested at the required voltage

  • Ensure the coating is free from holidays, verified by holiday detection at the correct voltage

  • 3.12: If applicable, have any repairs been completed and inspected as per the procedure

  • Record the Weld ID
