Pre-shift Planning

  • Clarifies work location, task & work instruction

  • Ensures any required operating permits are completed / obtained

  • Identifies hazards in the work area:<br>~ inclement weather <br>~ dust<br>~ fog <br>~ poor lighting / reduced visibility<br>~ environmental, geological and survey data

Pre-start

  • Checks under the machine for fluid leaks

  • Checks fluid levels

  • Checks transmission oil at the beginning and end of operations

  • Inspect for damaged, worn or broken parts

  • Checks for loose nuts, bolts or couplings

  • Check hydraulics - hoses, fittings, and hydraulic rams

  • Check attachments for wear, damage or missing components

  • Check fire extinguisher

  • Ensure that isolation switch is on

  • Check access ladders and steps

In Cab Checks

  • Uses the three points of contact rule when mounting the machine

  • Checks the transmission is in neutral

  • Tests normal operation EMS

  • Sounds horn, allows suitable time period then starts the engine

  • Observes gauges on engine start

  • Tests EMS warning alert system ( lights / buzzers )

  • Allows adequate warm up at low RPM

  • Lights, beacon, blinkers operational

  • Glasses and mirrors clean

  • Lifts and tests attachments / checks controls

Driving Off

  • Adjusts seat / secure seat belt

  • Releases park brake

  • Checks foot brake / steering operational

  • Ensures travel direction clear / sound horn before moving off

  • Blade stowed for travelling or at correct angle

Inspects Site and Plans Work

  • Inspects and identifies potential hazards

  • Warning signs, barriers placed ( as required )

Working Grader

  • Blade used at correct angle and pitch

  • Sets and uses Correct RPM and maintains correct speed

  • Uses diff lock / vibration damper ( as required )

  • Materials moved evenly across blade to form windrow

  • Loses windrow on last pass

  • Operates in a safe and controlled manner ( without excessive speed )

  • On completion work area is. Lear of hazards

Grader Shut-Down

  • Machine is parked in a safe level area

  • Attachments lowered to the ground

  • Engages park brake

  • Neutralises equipment controls

  • Allows time to idle down (cool) / stops engine

  • Closes cab / dismounts correctly

  • Turns isolator switch off

Sign Off / Authorisation

  • Candidate is assessed as

  • Requires Further Training?

  • Candidate agrees with the outcomes identified within the assessment

  • Authorised trainer / assessor have suitably assessed the candidate and agree with the assessment outcomes
