Safety Signage

3.1 Are all chemical storage areas clearly labelled?
3.2 Is signage displayed in plant rooms and chemical handling areas promoting the use of required PPE?
3.3 Are all pipes, valves and pumps, controlling water and chemical feeds, clearly labelled?
3.4 Do pipe markers have the correct colour?
3.5 Is there signage prohibiting smoking and indicating restricted access (e.g. Staff Only) at entrances to, and inside the plant room and chemical storage areas?
3.6 Are there visual indications of changes in gradient, particularly in pools of depths of 1.6 metres or less?
3.7 Are there sufficient depth markers? Marking type: Deep water depth (D), Shallow (S), Intermediate (I), Gradient changes (G)?
3.8 Are depth markers clearly visible from within the pool?
3.9 Are depth markers clearly visible from the concourse?
3.10 Is there sufficient signage identifying deep water, shallow water, particularly at pool entry points?
3.11 Is deep water/ shallow water signage compliant with the National Aquatic & Recreation Signage Style Manual?
3.12 In water less than 1.8 metres in depth, is Do Not Dive signage displayed?
3.13 Is Do Not Dive signage compliant with the National Aquatic & Recreation Signage Style Manual?
3.14 Is there signage at the pool entrance which specifies the conditions of use of the facility?

3.16 Is there signage that encourages active parental supervision in appropriate areas?
3.17 Are advisory signs, other than those associated with depth markings, used, when and where appropriate?
3.18 Is there First Aid room or area easily identified?

Facility Design

5.1 Are exits from the facility clearly marked in any lighting conditions?
5.2 Are the rooms or compounds in which the pools are located secure outside opening hours?
5.3 Are the pool and its surrounds sufficiently lit?
5.4 If the pool is outdoor, is shading (sun protection) available?
5.5 Is the nature of the surfaces in water depth of 1.6m or less intended to be slip resistant?
5.6 Are fittings and fixtures flush with pool walls and floor?
5.7 Are gutters, whether wet deck or integrated with the pool wall, sufficiently protected to prevent injury through obstruction, entrapment, or tripping?
5.8 Are toddlers and learners pools located away from deep-water pools, or are there sufficient and appropriate barriers between adjacent shallow and deep-water areas?
5.9 Are ladders only used as entries and exits into deep water?
5.10 Are entry and exit points provided on both sides of pool at each end?
5.11 Is the nature of the concourse surface intended to be slip resistant?
5.12 Does the concourse appear to be maintained?
5.13 Is the sufficient drainage of the concourse?
5.14 Is equipment stored on the pool concourse positioned to allow safe traffic flow?
5.15 Is the concourse width, without obstructions or fittings, 3.0m or greater?
5.16 Is the concourse free of any trip and entrapment hazards? i.e. equipment anchors, or other fittings, or are such trip entrapment hazards reduced through management?
5.17 Are general power outlets (GPO's) located at least 3.0m from the pool(s)?
5.18 If GPO's are located within 3m of the pool, are they a minimum of 1m above finish surface?
5.19 If GPO's are located within 3m of the pool or outdoors, do they have waterproof covers?
5.20 Are change rooms easily accessible?
5.21 Are change rooms lit to a level of 80 lux or greater?
5.22 Do the change room floor and shower walls appear to be maintained?
5.23 Is the water temperature in hand basins and showers no more than 43 degrees Celcius?
5.24 Are there procedures for, and measures to control usage of, the sauna or steam room?
