Safe Machinery Audit

Is the operator aware of the safety devices present on the machine?

Can the operator provide knowledge of where the safety devices are, and how they work?

Does the operator have any specific and documented training or instruction on running the machine?

Is the pre start safety check completed and accurate?

Are all the safety devices in place, secure and working correctly?

Is there adequate means of isolating energy (electrical/mechanical)?

Does the machine stop immediately once the emergency stop is pressed?

Are the start, stop and emergency controls located so the operator is not put at risk when using them?

Can the operator demonstrate the effective use of one or more safety devices?

Are all safety guards/panels in place, and secure?

Are all safety guards intact, with no access to moving parts possible?

Are the controls clearly visible and identifiable?

Are all safety notices clearly visible and relevent?

If the machinery has a maintenance log (PPM's) is it kept up to date?

Is the lighting around the machine suitable and sufficient?

Is the work equipment stable?

Where appropriate, is the machine fitted with one or more emergency stop controls?
