SMEC Site Safety Inspection

Is housekeeping and storage on site in storage containers etc?

Are hazardous substance stored in containers.

Are barricades or fences erected along or around work areas and excavations?

Are construction warning signs still displayed? For example, PPE, electrical hazard, flammable liquid, no smoking.

Are fire extinguishers on site and are inspection tags current?

Is there a first aid box and first aid person on site?

Are suitable staff amenities available? For example, toilets, washing facilities, lunch room.

Are all operators, traffic controllers, etc. on site correctly certified?

Can the contractor demonstrate at least weekly inspections of the workplace areas?

Have safe work method statements (SWMS) or job safety analysis (JSA) been developed for all current site activities and hold points released?

Has training been carried out for activities in progress?

Has the NCR/CAR system been maintained - NCRs/CARs raised and closed out.

Has the accident/injury reporting system been maintained and have incidents been closed out?

Is PRE being worn in compliance with signage and activities? For example, hearing, sun protection, glasses, clothing.

Is safe access and egress to all sites provided?

Is the electrical equipment register for all equipment currently on site up to date?

Is equipment tested and tagged for current period?

Are there handrails, mid rails and kickboards for all working platforms more than 2m high?

Is secure, ladder access provided to all working platforms?<br>• Extend minimum 900mm above work platform.<br>• Tied off or secured.<br>• Secured at top and bottom.<br>

Are safety harnesses in use for people working at heights above 1.8m?

Are excavations greater 1.5m either shored or properly battered to prevent cave-in?

Are hazardous overhead power lines clearly identified (signage and tiger tails)?

Have procedures for identifying utilities above and below ground been implemented? For example, dial before you dig, pothole, authorisation from utility owner.

Is there an approved traffic control plan?

Are traffic control inspections being conducted and records maintained?

Does plant comply with Site Specific Requirements? Eg. amber flashing beacon, 2- way radio. Is plant in an acceptable condition? (eg. Leaks, spills, etc.)

Have NCRs raised from previous inspection been closed out?
