Hazard Identification - Environmental Factors

Pedestrian Walkways

  • Where pedestrians are exposed to vehicle and mobile plant hazards, appropriate walkways shall be provided to ensure pedestrians:

High Visibility and Reflective Clothing for Pedestrians

Intersection Controls

  • Where vehicles share roadways, appropriate controls shall be implemented to limit the risk of collisions. Controls may include:
    • Adoption of standard roadway rules, line marking and signage at intersections (i.e. “give way”, “stop”, traffic lights or boom gates);
    • One way traffic flows;
    • Keep clear areas, and

Roadway Slopes

Speed Control Devices

Transport Loading / Unloading Zones

  • All locations on site that involve the loading/unloading of trucks shall have a safe system to prevent any injuries to pedestrians/truck drivers. These systems must include:
    • Pedestrian exclusion zones for drivers and pedestrians from mobile plant and vehicles;
    • Pedestrian walkways through despatch and/or warehouse operations, and

Loading Docks

    7.6.11.1. General
    Structures, plant, machinery or other fixtures that could be damaged by impact from vehicles, crane operations or mobile plant are to be protected by reinforced concrete barriers (at least to the maximum height of impact) or be protected by robust barriers or bollards
