General Condition

  • Is lighting and ventilation adequate? Shop has a system for exhausting toxic vapors such as carbon monoxide and other solvents to the exterior?

  • Are the clean up procedures adequate? Is absorbent compound available for covering oil and grease spots?

  • Is good housekeeping maintained throughout the shop?

  • Work benches were neat and clean?

Equipment and tools

  • Are machine guards in place on all grinders, saws, etc., and in good condition?

  • Battery chargers are in good condition?<br>

  • Acid carboys are available?

  • Air pressure used for cleaning is discharged at no more than 30psi?

  • Are Air Compressors and air hoses in good condition and stored properly?

  • Is stationary machinery securely anchored to prevent moving and is elevated machinery blocked up to prevent settling?

  • Are all powered and hand tools in good condition and free of defects?

  • Jacks are in good condition?

  • Proper friable asbestos control equipment is used when changing brake shoes containing asbestos?

  • When tires are mounted outside the shop, locking rings are chained to tire?

  • Sparkplug cleaner in in good condition?

  • Parts are cleaned in dip tank?

  • The chain hoist is inspected regularly and in good condition?

Electrical

  • Are extension cords in good shape, grounding plug in place, insulation in good shape and free of any tape?

  • Are plugs, sockets, or switches in good working order and free of defects?

  • Are inside breaker switches labeled?

  • Is access to control boxes kept clear?

  • Are Extension cords not hanging from metal structures; piping, nails, hooks, ladders, or scaffolds?

  • No extension cords pass through walls, ceilings, doors, or windows?

  • Extension cords are not subject to vehicle traffic and/or equipment traffic?

  • Are extension cords across placed outside of walkways?

  • Are portable power tools in good condition?

Fire Prevention and Flammable Materials

  • Are all combustibles and flammable substances properly labeled and stored? Are flammable cabinets provided and properly used?

  • Are fire extinguishers clearly marked and easily accessible?

  • Are fire extinguishers checked by a third party annually and tagged?

  • Are "No Smoking" signs displayed and enforced in designated areas?

  • Approved safety cans available for disposing oily rags and flammable liquids?

  • Are fire exits kept clear, accessible and clearly marked?

  • Do fire exits open easily from the inside?

Material Handling and Storage

  • Are conveniently placed racks and bins for small parts provided?

  • Is there proper tire storage?

  • Are dollies or jack stands, and auto jacks available in good condition?

  • Do all employees use proper lifting methods?

First Aid

  • Are first aid cabinets and contents clean and orderly?

  • Are first aid cabinet contents stocked?

  • Are cabinets clearly labeled?

  • Are cabinets easily accessible?

Safety Equipment

  • Is personal protective equipment maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition?

  • Is face and eye protection used when there is a reasonable probability of injury (i.e. welding, cutting, grinding, etc.)?

  • Is respiratory protection used where there is a danger from dust, fog fumes, smoke, vapors, etc.?

  • Are employees using hearing protection in required areas or when exposed to high levels of noise?

Walkways

  • Are aisles and passageways kept clear?

  • Are isles and walkways marked?

  • Are wet floors covered with non-slip a material?

  • Are materials or equipment stored in a such a way that sharp projectives will not interfere with the walkway?

  • Are spills cleaned up immediately?

Hazard Communication

  • Are SDS sheets readily available to employees?

  • Are eyewash and shower stations providing 15 minutes of continuous flush available and easily accessible?

Drains

  • Are all drains free of debris and cleared of water
