  • The stiles (uprights) are free from damage or excessive wear. (Particularly at the head or foot of the ladder)

  • The rungs (steps) are clean and free of damage or excessive wear.

  • All rungs (steps) and fittings are in place (e.g. Slip resistant feet on metal ladders etc.)

  • All rungs and stiles are secure and free from movement

  • Any tie rods are in place and secure

  • The ladder is free from distortion or warping that could affect its stability

  • The ladder is free from damage such as cracks, corrosion or dents etc.

  • All fittings such as ropes, pulleys or hinges are free from wear or damage
