Motor Room

  • Is the motor room access safe with suitable lighting and emergency lighting and any access ladders over 2M in height fitted with hooped protection?

  • Is the motor room door lockable and fitted with an internal release and displaying current motor room entrance notices?

  • Are any trap doors of sound construction, counterbalanced and marked with the safe working load?

  • Are the motor room and plinth floors free of tripping and slipping hazards and any redundant holes blanked off?

  • Is the motor room decorated as specified?

  • Are there a guard rails and access ladder fitted were plinths are more than 500mm high, do these comply with current standards and suitably fixed?

  • Are all lifting beams within the motor room tested and marked with the safe working load?

  • Are all electrical works completed in accordance with the specification?

  • Is the motor room light switch fitted adjacent to the motor main entry point and clearly identified?

  • Does the motor lighting meet current standards (200 lux at floor level)?

  • Is emergency lighting fitted and working correctly?

  • Is the ambient temperature of the motor room between 15 - 25 degrees C

  • Is an electric shock notice displayed within the motor room, is this securely fixed using mechanical (screw) fixings

  • Is there a rubber mat fitted in front and rear where applicable of the control panel and any other electrical panels within the motor room?

  • Are handwinding instructions displayed within the motor room, are these securely fixed and comply with the hand lowering procedure for the lift?

  • Is a floor level indicator fitted with both audible and visual indication including the ability to identify the lift location (lifts serving more than two floors)

  • Is an emergency stop switching fitted and when tested does it break the safety circuit?

  • Is the control panel correctly located with sufficient space to allow clear access and the panel securely fixed?

  • Do the control panel test controls work correctly?

  • Is there a high voltage warning notice fitted to the control panel door and heat notices were resistor boxes are externally mounted?

  • Are laminated wiring diagrams available on site?

Hydraulic Drive Unit

  • Is the hydraulic drive unit correctly installed and all connection tight?

  • Does the valve block maintain the pressure over a five minute period with the gate valve closed.

  • With a 200% full load static pressure applied with the ram fully extended for a period of 10 minutes, does the hydraulic system maintain the pressure within 10% for the next 5 minute period.

  • Is an over pressure switch fitted?

  • Does the over pressure switch break the safety circuit when operated?

  • Is a low pressure switch fitted?

  • Does the low pressure switch break the safety circuit when operated?

  • Is the hydraulic tank contained within a containment tank or a bund wall fitted to prevent the oil escaping the motor room?

  • Is a oil cooler unit fitted, is the cooler fitted in a position that will provide sufficient ventilation to fresh air to allow the unit to operate efficiently?

  • Does the oil cooler operate correctly when the thermostat is adjusted to activate / deactivate the cooler?

  • Is either a tank heater or motor room heating fitted and working correctly?

  • Is there a device fitted to monitor uncontrolled movement in accordance with BS EN81-2 A3?

  • Does the uncontrolled movement device stop the lift from moving when tested?

Full Load Tests

  • Has a 30 minute run with full contract load and the doors in circuit, been undertaken?

  • Did the lift operate correctly during the 30 minute run without failing.

  • Has a full load safety gear test been undertaken,?

  • Did the safety gear operate correctly with the lift stopping within the required sliding distance and equal marking on the guides.

  • With a full load in the lift car did the overload device correctly operate including audible and visual indication?

  • With a full load in the lift car did the emergency lowering system operate correctly with he power on and power off?

  • Is the floor levelling accuracy at all floors under full load conditions +/- 5mm?

Car Top

  • Is a car top control conforming to either EN81- 1/2 or BS7255 enhanced version fitted?

  • Is a car top light fitted, did it operate correctly at the time of test?

  • is emergency lighting fitted to the car top?

  • Is a RCD protected socket fitted?

  • Did the car top emergency communication device operate correctly when tested?

  • Do the emergency stop switches on the car top break the safety circuit when operated?

  • Is an emergency stop switch located with 1 metre of the landing threshold?

  • Is a switch for the shaft lighting fitted to the car top?

  • Are all pulleys on the car top painted yellow and guarded?

  • Are there any voids around the top of the lift car in excess of 300mm?

  • Where voids exceed 300mm is a securely fixed and rigid car top balustrade fitted complete with mid bar and toe board?

  • Will the car top safely support the weight of two engineers plus tools?

  • Is all trunking and wiring on the car top run to avoid causing tripping hazards?

  • Is there clearance for the man safe area on top of the car (min 0.5 x 0.6 x 0.8 metres)?

  • Has the man safe area been clearly marked on top of the lift car?

  • Where there is insufficient space for the man safe area, is a mechanical device fitted to create the man safe area?

  • If a mechanical device is utilised to create the man safe area, is it fitted with an electrical contact that will only allow the lift to operate under test control with the device engaged?

  • Are the landing entrance which allow access to the top of the lift car fitted with switches/solenoids which will not allow the lift to be returned to normal service until reset in the control panel?

  • Will the shaft switches stop the lift before it buffers when under inspection control, allowing the lift to be driven away from the floor?

Lift Car

  • Is the lift car clean with all protection removed?

  • Are all surface as per specification and free from marks and damages?

  • Is car lighting fitted as specified, providing a minimum of 200lux at floor level?

  • Is the emergency lighting fitted as specified and working correctly?

  • Does the audible alarm operate correctly under both power on and power off conditions?

  • Is the emergency two way communications system fitted and operating correctly?

  • Confirm the numbers the emergency communication system is programmed to dial: i.e. Number 1:, Number 2:, Number 3:, Number 4:

  • Do all car push buttons and key switches operate correctly?

  • Do all lift car indicators operate correctly?

  • With the load removed from the lift car is the floor levelling accuracy at all floor levels +/- 5mm?

  • On hydraulic Installations, does the re-levelling in both direction operate correctly at all floors with the floor levels being a maximum of +/- 5mm?

  • Is the ride in the lift car of a satisfactory level and the noise level acceptable?

  • On hydraulic lifts, state the level of compression when a full load is applied to the lift car at the highest level served.

  • On hydraulic lifts, state the level of compression when a full load is applied to the lift car at the lowest level served.

Lift Shaft

  • Is the well enclosure continuous floor to ceiling?

  • Have all redundant fixings, saddles, wiring etc been removed from the lift shaft and any redundant holes filled in or plated over?

  • Are full height division screens fitted where the shaft is shared with other lifts?

  • Are there lifting beams or lifting points fitted and are these marked with the safe working load?

  • Is the shaft lighting fitted to specification providing a minimum of 100 lux at the furthest point?

  • Can the overspeed governor (when mounted in the lift shaft) be tested and reset remotely or is there an electrically interlocked access panel which will allow access to reset the unit?

  • Does the operation of the overspeed governor switch break the safety circuit?

  • Is the up inspection limit set to stop the lift in a position to allow safe egress from the car top or 1.8M from the first striking point.

  • Does the up final limit stop the lift in the up direction when operated?

  • Does the ultimate / overtravel limit stop the lift in either direction when operated.

  • Is a restricted headroom notice fitted where applicable?

  • Is the shaft painted / dust sealed if specified?

Lift Pit

  • Is there a suitable access ladder to allow safe access and egress to and from the pit area?

  • Is the pit floor of a sound construction and free from slipping and tripping hazards and holes?

  • 9.3. Is there sufficient space for the man safe area in the lift pit ( 0.5 x 0.6 x 1.0 metre)?

  • Is the man safe area clearly marked on the pit floor?

  • For hydraulic lifts and lifts with low pit depths, are pit props and electrically interlocked mountings fitted within the pit, completed with signage stating they must be positioned when working in the pit?

  • Does the electrical switch(es) for the pit props break the safety circuit when operated?

  • Is the pit stop switch(es) easily accessible form both the pit and landing and the switches labelled Push to Stop?

  • Does the operation of the stop switch(es) break the safety circuit?

  • Are pit division screens fitted up to an height of 2.5M?

  • Is the pit clear of any water or oil?

  • Is the pit painted as per the specification?

  • Are the safety gear, guide shoes and car isolation mountings securely fixed?

  • Does the operation of the safety gear switch break the safety circuit?

  • On hydraulic lifts, does the operation of the slack rope/chain switch break the safety circuit when operated?

  • Does the operation of the overspeed governor pulley switch break the safety circuit when operated?

  • Does the operation of the bottom final limit stop the lift in the down direction?

  • Does the operation of the ultimate/overtravel limit stop the lift in both the up and down directions of travel?

Entrances

  • Does the car gate contact stop the lift car when the lift when the contacts are broken?

  • Is there a toe guard fitted to the lift car?

  • Do the full height safety edges cause the doors to retract when obstructed?

  • Is the door pressure switch (anti-pinch) correctly set (150N) and causes the doors to retract when operated.

  • Are the clearance on all entrances less than 6mm (10mm when original equipment retained)?

  • Are all landing locks correctly set?

  • Has all protective covering been removed?

  • Are all door panel box frames and architraves free from any damage?

  • Do the landing locks stop the lift when the lock is broken? (Independently check each lock).

  • Do all the landing doors/gates operate freely and the doors close and mechanically lock when left in an open position (independently check each entrance)

  • Are running clearances between car and landing cills consistent and below 35mm and the cills square with each other?

  • Are shaft fascia's fitted and secure?

  • Are landing toe guards fitted and secure?

  • If EN81 locking is fitted to the door operator, can it be manually released?

  • Do all landing buttons operate correctly?

  • Do all landing indicators operate correctly?

  • Have tactile floor ID plates been fitted at all floors?

  • Does the fire recall device operate correctly, returning the lift to the designated fire floor?

  • Does the no entry indicator illuminate when the lift is at the fire floor with the doors open?

  • Has signage been displayed at each each landing warning against the use of the lift in the event of fire?

  • Is a landing entrance barrier provided?

  • Have all landing decorations been completed to an acceptable standard
