Main Inspection

House Keeping

  • Is the general area tidy, clean and well kept?

  • Are the waste bins less than ¾ full?

  • Is the floor surface are clean, non-slippery (free from spills or cleaning residues)?

  • Is the work area free from trip hazards?

  • Are the carpeted areas are intact and do not present a trip hazard?

  • Do windows and doors close properly and seal correctly?

  • Are the secure cupboards, lockers or drawers available for workers to store personal belongings?

Lighting

  • Is the lighting adequate and suitable for the work being performed?

  • Are the light switches and power points within easy reach and easily accessible (i.e. not obstructed by fixed equipment)

  • Are the light fittings are clean with no blown globes or flickering tubes?

  • Are the lighting covers and fittings secure?

Ventilation

  • Is the temperature maintained at an appropriate level?

  • Is the air quality is acceptable? (free of odours, fumes etc.)

Emergency

  • Are extinguishers in place, serviced (tagged) within last 6 months and located in accordance with evacuation diagrams?

  • Are Emergency Exits clear and unobstructed? (1.8m clearance from door)

  • Are fire doors not propped open or blocked?

  • Are Emergency Flip charts on display at or near phone/ desk and WIP phone?

  • Are Warden Vests available?

  • Is a current evacuation diagram is displayed and clearly legible? (Emergency evacuation diagrams posted with “you are here” indicator and directions of exits, assembly point)

  • Are exit signs are visible and illuminated?

  • Can the alarm be heard in the area?

  • Are duress buttons fitted where required and are staff aware of how to activate them?

Equipment

  • Are Safe Operating Procedures (SOP) available for equipment where required?

  • Are manual handling aids (trolleys etc.) sufficient for the tasks performed?

  • Are maintenance request forms readily available for any faulty equipment or other issues requiring maintenance?

  • Are maintenance forms placed on items to indicate out of service?

Electrical

  • Does electrical equipment have current inspection / test tag affixed and are they legible?

  • Are electrical items in good condition and not damaged, including power and extension cords/plugs - intact and not frayed?

  • Are power leads/cables off the floor or placed away from walkways?

  • Are power boards with RCD in use? (Double adaptors are not permitted)

Waste Control

  • Are waste streams segregated? (black bins general rubbish, recycling etc.)

  • Are waste containers clean and not full/overflowing?

  • Do waste containers have suitable lids?

Storage

  • Are storage areas are clean, neat and tidy?

  • Are materials and equipment appropriately stored?

  • Is the shelving adequate and secured? (e.g. secured to walls/floor)

  • Are heavy and frequently used items stored between waist and shoulder height?

  • Is there sufficient storage and space allocation? (no overflow storage of equipment into work areas)

  • Are load rated ladders/platforms available for accessing items on higher shelving?

  • Is infrequently used equipment or not in-use equipment stored away?

Ergonomics

  • Are workstations, benches, stools, chairs etc. in good condition and fit for purpose?

  • Have controls been put in place to manage hazardous manual handling tasks?

  • Can the filing cabinet drawers only open one at a time?
